CuInS2 Nanosheet Arrays with a MoS2 Heterojunction as a Photocathode for PEC Water Splitting

Mohit Kumar et al.

Summary: Developing cost-effective noble metal-free co-catalysts is an excellent strategy to enhance photoelectrochemical (PEC) water splitting. In this study, a CuInS2 nanosheet array-based photocathode modified with CdS and MoS2 was successfully fabricated to improve water splitting under solar irradiation. The introduction of CdS and MoS2 significantly enhanced the visible light absorption of the modified hybrid photocathode and led to improved separation of excited electron-hole pairs, minimized resistance of charge transfer, and increased photocurrent.

Double Z-scheme FeVO4/Bi4O5Br2/BiOBr ternary heterojunction photocatalyst for simultaneous photocatalytic removal of hexavalent chromium and rhodamine B

Auttaphon Chachvalvutikul et al.

Summary: The fabrication of heterojunction photocatalysts with appropriate band potentials is an effective method to enhance photocatalytic properties by inhibiting electron-hole pair recombination. In this study, BiOBr, Bi4O5Br2, and Binary BiOBr/Bi4O5Br2 composites were synthesized using microwave irradiation, followed by the fabrication of FeVO4/Bi4O5Br2/BiOBr ternary composites with different weight percentages of FeVO4 for photocatalytic applications. The 1%wt-FeVO4/Bi4O5Br2/BiOBr photocatalyst showed superior visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance, with improved Cr(VI) photoreduction and simultaneous degradation of RhB in a combined system. Adjusting pH values and catalyst dosages maximized the removal of Cr(VI) and RhB. The study proposed a double Z-scheme charge transfer mechanism with an RhB-sensitized effect, leading to significant enhancement in charge segregation and migration, and higher redox properties of the ternary composite, resulting in excellent photocatalytic activity.

Regulating Graphitic Carbon Nitride/Cocatalyst by an Amorphous MoS2 Conformal Multifunctional Intermediate Layer for Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution

Jing Wang et al.

Summary: Cocatalyst engineering and interface engineering are two effective strategies for improving photocatalytic activity. By designing an intermediate layer to regulate the combination of these strategies, a conformal chemically bonded interface and low overpotential for the hydrogen evolution reaction can be achieved. The synthesized photocatalyst CN/A-MoS2/Pt demonstrates significantly enhanced visible-light-driven hydrogen evolution rate compared to CN alone, showing great potential for solar-to-fuel conversion.
