Reversible transformations between the non-porous phases of a flexible coordination network enabled by transient porosity

Varvara I. Nikolayenko et al.

Summary: Flexible metal-organic materials capable of stimulus-induced switching between closed and open structures show potential application in gas storage and separation. A clathrate coordination network is demonstrated to undergo gas-induced switching between multiple phases through transient porosity, allowing diffusion of guests between discrete voids. The material shows reversible switching between guest-free and gas-loaded phases, and the diffusion mechanism is elucidated using in situ X-ray diffraction and computational methods.

Highly dynamic 1D coordination polymers for adsorption and separation applications

Martina Lippi et al.

Summary: This article highlights the main advances in using one-dimensional coordination polymers for adsorption and separation purposes, focusing on larger guest molecules and charged dyes or ions. In most cases, the adsorption processes induce significant structural changes in the CPs framework, as shown by extensive X-ray characterization. The dynamic properties of these compounds in responding to external chemical stimuli are inherent in their structural features, composed of chain-like arrays held together by weak inter-chain interactions.

Slacking of Gate Adsorption Behavior on Metal-Organic Frameworks under an External Force

Shotaro Hiraide et al.

Summary: This study discussed the influence of polymer binders on the adsorption behavior of flexible MOFs, revealing the phenomenon of gate adsorption slacking and analyzing its thermodynamic characteristics through molecular simulations. The results showed that controlling the external force applied to MOF particles is crucial for shaping pellets that meet the requirements of gate adsorption.

Charge Manipulation in Metal-Organic Frameworks: Toward Designer Functional Molecular Materials

Hitoshi Miyasaka

Summary: Multi-dimensional coordination frameworks with controllable charge states offer fascinating targets for the design of electronic/magnetic functional materials. D/A metal-organic frameworks can be designed by assembling electron donor and electron acceptor units with electronically conjugated linkages, allowing precise tuning of charge distribution between internal subunits by varying their electronic structure. The diverse charge states, anisotropic framework, and porous nature of D/A-MOFs are correlated with their bulk electronic and magnetic properties.
