Photoinduced ligand to metal charge transfer enabling cerium mediated decarboxylative alkylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones

Swati Singh et al.

Summary: Here, we report a method for the cerium-mediated decarboxylative alkylation of quinoxalin-2(1H)-ones using feedstock carboxylic acids as a radical precursor via photoinduced-LMCT. This operationally simple protocol overcomes the limitation of direct use of carboxylic acids and allows for the synthesis of the desired alkylated heterocyclic product in good to excellent yields.

Thenoyltrifluoroacetone: Preferable Molecule for Solvent Extraction of Metals-Ancient Twists to New Approaches

Maria Atanassova

Summary: This article reviews the investigations on the solvent extraction processes of metal ions with thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) as a chelating ligand. It highlights the preference for this molecule in the field for over half a century and its frequent use as an extractant for almost all metals. The article provides an overview of synergistic solvent extraction of lanthanoids, particularly using a beta-diketone-neutral mixture. It examines the extraction efficiency in detail and discusses the corresponding equilibrium constants and other important parameters in the context of previously published results.

Multireference Ab Initio Investigation on Ground and Low-Lying Excited States: Systematic Evaluation of J-J Mixing in a Eu3+ Luminescent Complex

Luca Babetto et al.

Summary: This study proposes a theoretical protocol that combines DFT and CAS calculations for Eu3+ complexes, emphasizing the importance of spin multiplicity and the number of states in energy calculations. The protocol enables a rigorous, full ab initio treatment of Eu3+ complexes and can be extended to other Ln(3+) ions.

Developing the 134Ce and 134La pair as companion positron emission tomography diagnostic isotopes for 225Ac and 227Th radiotherapeutics

Tyler A. Bailey et al.

Summary: The development of targeted alpha therapies can potentially revolutionize disease treatment by delivering destructive radiation to diseased cells while sparing healthy tissue. Despite challenges with incompatible isotopes, researchers successfully produced Ce-134 for PET imaging, demonstrating its potential as a candidate for imaging Ac-225 or Th-227. Rigorous control of the Ce-III/Ce-IV redox couple was crucial for success in these experiments.

Roadmap towards solar fuel synthesis at the water interface of liposome membranes

Andrea Pannwitz et al.

Summary: Artificial photosynthesis has made significant progress in producing solar fuel using liposomes as nanocompartments. However, mastering membrane-supported photochemistry requires a thorough understanding of the science behind lipids. Understanding key features like orientation, controlled electron transport, and proton gradients in photoactive liposomes could enhance efficiency in solar fuel synthesis.
