N=N Bond Cleavage by Tantalum Hydride Complexes: Mechanistic Insights and Reactivity

Elena Alvarez-Ruiz et al.

Summary: This study revealed a series of tantalum(IV) compounds produced through reactions with different ligands and ligand substitutions, accompanied by the release of molecular hydrogen. Similarly, DFT calculations elucidated the N=N cleavage mechanism and demonstrated that the ditantalum(IV) fragment can promote two-electron reductions of the N=N bond at two different metal-metal bond splitting stages.

Insights into the Mechanism of Carbon Dioxide and Propylene Oxide Ring-Opening Copolymerization Using a Co(III)/K(I) Heterodinuclear Catalyst

Arron C. Deacy et al.

Summary: A combined computational and experimental investigation was conducted on the catalytic cycle of carbon dioxide and propylene oxide ring-opening copolymerization. The study revealed the role of a Co(III)K(I) heterodinuclear complex in activating and stabilizing the intermediates, as well as the transient carbonate nucleophile provided by potassium. The results provided insights into the key steps and selectivity limitations of the catalytic cycle, aiding future catalyst design and optimization.

Progress in the catalytic reactions of CO2 and epoxides to selectively provide cyclic or polymeric carbonates

Gulzar A. Bhat et al.

Summary: Sustainability requires the reuse of carbon sources from CO2 emissions, making carbon capture and utilization essential. Coupling of oxiranes (epoxides) with CO2 can generate cyclic carbonates and polymeric materials, providing a potential solution. It is important to use epoxides derived from renewable resources for a sustainable process.

Redox chemistry of discrete low-valent titanium complexes and low-valent titanium synthons

Skye Fortier et al.

Summary: Titanium is a versatile metal with important applications in practical synthesis, typically limited to stoichiometric reactions or Lewis acid catalysis. Interest has grown in using titanium and other early-metals for redox catalysis, but limitations exist due to their thermodynamic preference for high oxidation states. However, low-valent titanium complexes and their synthons are known, and recent developments have focused on reversible oxidative-addition/reductive-elimination reactions using these systems.
