A Variable Dimension-Based Method for Roadside LiDAR Background Filtering

Jianqing Wu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a point-based method for filtering background information in roadside LiDAR data. The method dynamically stores the location of background points and identifies them based on the number of neighbors and distance. Experimental results show that the proposed method effectively filters background points in various scenarios, while reducing computation load and improving filtering accuracy compared to existing methods.

A Novel Information Theory-Based Metric for Evaluating Roadside LiDAR Placement

Shaojie Jin et al.

Summary: Intelligent vehicle infrastructure cooperative systems can address the limited perception range of autonomous vehicles by real-time perception of road traffic using roadside mounted sensors. In this study, an information-theoretic LiDAR mounting placement evaluation method is proposed, which quantifies the perception performance of LiDAR by introducing a metric based on per voxel point clouds. Experimental results show that the proposed method is simple, efficient, and consistent with existing algorithms.

Background Extraction and Objects Segmentation with 3D Roadside LiDAR under Snowy Weather

Chenghao Sun et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new method to extract background and segment targets from three-dimensional roadside LiDAR point clouds, especially in snowfall weather. The method constructs a background model using historical point cloud sequence and filters the background by background difference. It also includes a linear density filter for snow noise and a hierarchical target clustering algorithm to accurately detect road targets affected by snow occlusion, avoiding over-segmentation and under-segmentation.
