The intelligent critic framework for advanced optimal control

Ding Wang et al.

Summary: The idea of optimization is important in many disciplines, especially for advanced control design based on artificial intelligence. Due to the difficulty of solving optimal control problems for nonlinear systems, new learning strategies with intelligent components are necessary. The rapid development of computer and networked techniques has also promoted research on optimal control in the discrete-time domain. This paper presents the bases, derivation, and recent progresses of critic intelligence for discrete-time optimal control design, with a focus on the iterative framework.

Finite-time stabilization of continuous-time switched positive delayed systems

Ning Xu et al.

Summary: This paper addresses the problems of finite-time stability and stabilization for continuous-time switched positive linear time-delay systems. By constructing a multiple piecewise copositive Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional, finite-time stability conditions are established, and finite-time stabilization is achieved by designing a state-feedback controller in the form of linear programming. The proposed controller construction approach reduces conservatism.

Self-triggered control of probabilistic Boolean control networks: A reinforcement learning approach

Pratik Bajaria et al.

Summary: This work discusses the optimal feedback control strategies for probabilistic Boolean control networks (PBCNs). Reinforcement learning (RL) is explored to minimize the model design efforts and regulate PBCNs with high complexities. A Q-learning random forest (QLRF) algorithm is proposed to design state feedback controllers for stabilizing the PBCNs at a given equilibrium point. Furthermore, a Lyapunov function is defined by adopting QLRF-stabilized closed-loop PBCNs, and a method to construct the same is presented. A novel self-triggered control (STC) strategy is proposed by utilizing such Lyapunov functions, where the controller is recomputed according to a triggering schedule, resulting in an optimal control strategy while maintaining the stability of the closed-loop PBCN. The results are verified through computer simulations.

Finite-time control of discrete-time semi-Markov jump linear systems: A self-triggered MPC approach

Peng He et al.

Summary: In this paper, a self-triggered model predictive control (MPC) strategy is proposed for discrete-time semi-Markov jump linear systems to achieve a desired finite-time performance. By introducing the concept of multi-step semi-Markov kernel, the multi-step predictive states under system mode jumping are obtained. Meanwhile, a self-triggered scheme is used to automatically predict sampling instants and reduce the computational burden of on-line solving of MPC.

Network-based robust event-triggered control for continuous-time uncertain semi-Markov jump systems

Linchuang Zhang et al.

Summary: This article investigates the event-triggered (ET) states feedback robust H infinity control problem for a class of continuous-time networked semi-Markov jump systems, proposing an ET scheme based on semi-Markov process. It introduces a time-delay S-MJSs model under the ET scheme to cope with network transmission delay phenomenon and considers imperfect communication links between event detector and zero-order holder. The sufficient conditions for stochastic stability are derived using linear matrix inequalities approach, ensuring the constructed time-delay S-MJSs meet an optimized H infinity performance level. Simulation results validate the proposed method for F-404 aircraft engine system with two kinds of ET parameters.

Uncertain Disturbance Rejection and Attenuation for Semi-Markov Jump Systems With Application to 2-Degree-Freedom Robot Arm

Xiuming Yao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the composite refined anti-disturbance control problem of a 2-degree-of-freedom robot arm system modeled by a semi-Markov jump system with multiple disturbances. A novel linear model is proposed for the robot arm system subject to two types of disturbances, and a higher order disturbance observer is introduced to estimate uncertain harmonic disturbances. A composite anti-disturbance control scheme is formulated to reject and attenuate the disturbances, and sufficient conditions for system stability are given. Simulation study is conducted to illustrate the validity of the proposed control design method.
