Differential Evolution-Based Feature Selection: A Niching-Based Multiobjective Approach

Peng Wang et al.

Summary: Feature selection aims to reduce data dimensionality and classification error rate through a multiobjective approach. This article proposes a niching-based method that minimizes the number of selected features and the classification error rate simultaneously. The proposed method can generate a diverse set of feature subsets with good convergence and distribution, and with almost the same lowest classification error rate for the same number of features.

A machine learning and genetic algorithm-based method for predicting width deviation of hot-rolled strip in steel production systems

Yingjun Ji et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a Machine-learning and Genetic-algorithm-based Hybrid method named MGH to predict width deviation in steel production systems. The MGH method aims to find a balance between prediction accuracy and interpretability in the resulting model by combining hierarchical clustering, genetic algorithm, and generalized linear regression. Experimental results on both industrial and public datasets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method in achieving a good trade-off between prediction accuracy and interpretability. The MGH method outperforms compared state-of-the-art models.

Clustering-Guided Particle Swarm Feature Selection Algorithm for High-Dimensional Imbalanced Data With Missing Values

Yong Zhang et al.

Summary: This article proposes a new evolutionary feature selection (FS) method to handle high-dimensional imbalanced data with missing values. By defining an improved RF-measure to evaluate the influence of missing data on FS performance and using it as an objective function, a particle swarm optimization-based FS method with fuzzy clustering (PSOFS-FC) is developed. Experimental results show that PSOFS-FC achieves excellent classification performance in a short amount of time, indicating its superiority in tackling high-dimensional imbalanced data with missing values.

Fei Han et al.

Summary: Feature selection is a multi-objective optimization problem with conflicting objectives of classification accuracy and selected feature numbers, however, existing algorithms often struggle with complex Pareto fronts. The proposed MOPSO-ASFS algorithm utilizes adaptive strategies to improve population selection pressures, resulting in better convergence and diversity in finding optimal solutions compared to other algorithms, particularly on high dimensional datasets.
