This study focuses on using soy protein to prepare environmentally-friendly adhesives. However, the weak interfacial adhesion of soy protein-based adhesives limits their application. By designing a bionic bond-stitch molecular topology and blending it with soy protein, a strong multifunctional adhesive is successfully prepared.

Qualitative profiling and relative quantitative analysis of compounds in light-harvested and shading-treated sumac (Toxicodendron vernicifluum) leaves and their antibacterial activity

Summary: The compounds in ethyl acetate extracts of light-harvested and shading-treated sumac leaves were analyzed using HPLC-QTOF-MS/MS. Light was found to be an important factor affecting compound categories and content. Shading treatment resulted in a decrease in urushiol compounds and an increase in flavonoids, while most alkaloids and terpenoids decreased. Extracts from sumac leaves showed antibacterial activity, although it was decreased in shading-treated leaves.

However, currently available natural adhesives often have low performance. Self-repairability has become a popular feature for new materials, including adhesives. In this study, sulfururushiol copolymers were prepared using plant resourced urushiol and industrial waste of elemental sulfur. The copolymers showed high strength, self-repairability, and antimicrobial properties. The materials are hydrophobic and exhibit excellent adhesion strength. They also have good durability and are environmentally friendly. The copolymers have promising applications in various fields.

Hyperbranched catechol biomineralization for preparing super antibacterial and fire-resistant soybean protein adhesives with long-term adhesion

The adhesive exhibited long-term adhesion behavior, excellent mildew resistance, antibacterial properties, fire retardancy, and low VOCs emission.
