A review on application of ultrasound and ultrasound assisted technology for seed oil extraction

R. C. N. Thilakarathna et al.

Summary: Ultrasound-assisted oil extraction has multiple benefits, including increased yield and improved oil quality, making it a popular alternative to traditional extraction methods. Ultrasound facilitates the release of oil from cells through cavitation and green solvents can be used instead of toxic organic solvents. The combination of ultrasound with other technologies further enhances oil extraction.

The structure-activity mechanism of the changes in the physicochemical properties of Flammulina velutipes polysaccharides during ultrasonic extraction

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: The study found that ultrasonic extraction reduced the viscosity and gel strength of Flammulina velutipes polysaccharides by breaking the polysaccharide chain and increasing the galactose and fucose contents. This resulted in improved thermal stability of the FVPs. Adjusting ultrasonic parameters during extraction could enable the directional production of FVPs with specific structural and functional properties.

Formulation and Evaluation of Spray-Dried Reconstituted Flaxseed Oil-in-Water Emulsions Based on Flaxseed Oil Cake Extract as Emulsifying and Stabilizing Agent

Emilia Drozlowska et al.

Summary: The study examined the properties of flaxseed oil cake extract (FOCE) as an emulsifying and stabilizing agent for spray-dried reconstituted oil-in-water emulsions. FOCE proved to be an adequate emulsifier providing high stability for spray-dried emulsions with a high oil content after reconstitution. This method offers a promising way for producing natural and plant-based spray-dried oil-loaded emulsions for food applications.

Skin Wound-Healing Potential of Polysaccharides from Medicinal Mushroom Auricularia auricula-judae (Bull.)

Sariya Mapoung et al.

Summary: Auricularia auricula-judae, a nutrient-rich mushroom used in traditional medicine, has been found to promote wound healing through a water-soluble polysaccharide-rich extract (AAP). AAP showed antioxidant activity, increased fibroblast and keratinocyte proliferation, migration, and collagen synthesis while decreasing E-cadherin expression. In a mice skin wound-healing model, AAP significantly accelerated wound closure on days 9 and 12. Overall, AAP's wound healing activities can potentially be applied in wound management products.
