Cellulose template-based triboelectric nanogenerators for self-powered sensing at high humidity

Wanglin Zhang et al.

Summary: This work solves the problem of weak operating properties of triboelectric materials in high humidity environments by preparing hydrophilic triboelectric materials with cellulose as a template. The study shows that the cellulose template-based triboelectric material can sustain outstanding performance in a broad humidity range (40%-90% RH) for 150 s with high sensitivity (0.8/1%).

Improving the Processability and Performance of Micronized Fiber-Reinforced Green Composites through the Use of Biobased Additives

Bruno F. A. Valente et al.

Summary: Green composites made of bioplastics reinforced with natural fibers have gained considerable attention. In this study, two additives, epoxidized linseed oil and a sugar-based surfactant, were tested in composite formulations of poly(lactic acid) or poly(hydroxybutyrate) reinforced with micronized pulp fibers. The additives showed a plasticizing effect, improving elongation, flexural strain at break, and melt flow rate. However, the additives also accelerated the degradation of the composites, leading to significant weight loss under compost conditions.

Fast and quantitative compositional analysis of hybrid cellulose-based regenerated fibers using thermogravimetric analysis and chemometrics

Chamseddine Guizani et al.

Summary: A fast and quantitative thermoanalytical method for compositional analysis of man-made hybrid cellulose fibers was introduced in this study, utilizing a combination of thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and chemometrics. The method successfully predicted the share of lignin or chitosan in the cellulose hybrid fibers with low cross validation errors, outperforming common modeling methods. Additionally, the versatility of this thermoanalytical method was demonstrated through an example of measuring polyester content in cellulose and polyester fiber blends.

Enzymatic Pretreatment with Laccases from Lentinus sajor-caju Induces Structural Modification in Lignin and Enhances the Digestibility of Tropical Forage Grass (Panicum maximum) Grown under Future Climate Conditions

Emanuelle Neiverth de Freitas et al.

Summary: This study optimized laccase pretreatment using a crude extract from Lentinus sajor caju on Panicum maximum, resulting in increased sugar yield and enabling hydrolysis at higher solid loading. The removal of lignin and lignin hydrophilization catalyzed by laccase contributed to these improvements in hydrolytic potential.

Nitrate-Alkaline Pulp from Non-Wood Plants

Katerina Hajkova et al.

Summary: This study focused on pulp and paper production from the waste and agricultural residues of non-wood plants, with black mustard and camelina as the materials for experimentation. Results showed that lignin content in non-wood plants is lower, and cooked pulp was characterized by Kappa number.

Non-Wood Fibers: Relationships of Fiber Properties with Pulp Properties

Taslima Ferdous et al.

Summary: The study found correlations between fiber properties and papermaking properties, including positive relationships between fiber length and refining pulp strength properties. Multiple regression equations also indicated the relationships between fiber quality parameters and papermaking properties.
