Analysis of the influence of wheat residues on gypsum composites

Diogo Antonio Correa Gomes et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the influence of adding different percentages of wheat residues on the physical-mechanical properties of gypsum matrix composites. The results showed that increasing the amount of wheat fibers led to a decrease in mechanical properties, though still meeting standard specifications, while improving the insulation properties of the composite.

State of the art in the application of functionalized waste polymers in the built environment

Mohammadjavad Kazemi et al.

Summary: There is an increased demand for durable and sustainable construction materials to improve the long-term performance of buildings and infrastructure. Polymer modification is a well-known method for enhancing the properties of construction materials, but the low compatibility between construction materials and polymers, especially from waste plastics and rubbers, has limited its effectiveness. This paper reviews studies on polymer functionalization to improve compatibility specifically for thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers, examining how it enhances the properties of construction materials.

Non-flammable liquid polymer-in-salt electrolyte enabling secure and dendrite-free lithium metal battery

Haifeng Tu et al.

Summary: In this study, a non-flammable liquid polymer-in-salt composite electrolyte with superior dendrite-suppression capability was successfully designed and achieved. The electrolyte system could construct fast ionic transportation channels and form a robust organic/inorganic dual layer solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) layer on the lithium anode. The experimental results demonstrated excellent performance of this electrolyte system in various battery systems.

Plastic composites as sustainable building materials: A thermal and mechanical exploration

H. Acuna-Pizano et al.

Summary: Plastic waste management is a significant global issue, but it also presents an opportunity for the development of construction materials. This manuscript explores the trends in plastic composites, with a focus on their thermal and mechanical features. Data from literature classifies 88 plastic composites into six filler-based categories, and highlights the thermal conductivity and compression strength ranges. The potential of recycled plastic composites in reducing energy demand in buildings is also discussed.

Sustainable valorization of recycled low-density polyethylene and cocoa biomass for composite production

Maria Cecillia Ramos de Araujo Veloso et al.

Summary: The study shows that utilizing waste to produce composite materials has the potential for creating high value-added products, although it may result in reduced density and mechanical properties of the composites. Therefore, research and development using waste materials are essential for environmental protection and resource recycling.

Thermoplastic moulding of Wood-Polymer Composites (WPC): A review on physical and mechanical behaviour under hot-pressing technique

Daniel Friedrich

Summary: This review paper examines the mechanical and physical standards of Wood-Plastic Composite (WPC) materials, focusing on the feasibility of creating three-dimensional elements through thermoforming. Hypotheses on expected properties for different WPC formulations are presented, laying the groundwork for further experimental studies in the development of thermally formed WPCs for large-scale applications.

Application of bromocresol purple dye for plaster drying time determination

Lucas de Souza Conceicao et al.

Summary: This study verified the efficiency of using bromocresol purple (BCP) dye as an acid-base indicator to determine the dry state of gypsum plaster. The addition of the indicator did not affect the workability time of the paste. Different dosages of the indicator resulted in variations in compressive strength, hardness, and tensile adhesion strength of the gypsum plaster.

On the use of wood charcoal filler to improve the properties of natural fiber reinforced polymer composites

Subrata Chandra Das et al.

Summary: The study found that incorporating 4 wt% wood charcoal filler in natural fiber reinforced polymer composites can significantly improve tensile properties, while further increasing the filler loading may reduce mechanical properties. Thermal analysis indicated that the composite modified with 4 wt% wood charcoal filler exhibited enhanced thermal stability.
