Non-enzymatic modification of the crystalline structure and chemistry of Masson pine in brown-rot decay

Yuan Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the changes in cellulose crystalline structure and chemical composition of Masson pine during brown-rot decay caused by Gloeophyllum trabeum. The results show that the cellulose crystallinity initially increases and then decreases, accompanied by non-enzymatic depolymerization of amorphous cellulose and hemicellulose. These findings provide insights into the degradation and utilization of lignocellulose.

Synthesis of branched β-1,3-glucan oligosaccharide with narrow degree of polymerization by fungi co-cultivation

Jianrong Wu et al.

Summary: The study focused on co-cultivating fungi and Trichoderma to produce branched beta-1,3-glucan oligosaccharides through fermentation. The resulting products showed significant antioxidant activity, with bO beta G from S. commune demonstrating superior performance compared to that from S. rolfsii.

The characteristics of insoluble softwood substrates affect fungal morphology, secretome composition, and hydrolytic efficiency of enzymes produced by Trichoderma reesei

Vera Novy et al.

Summary: The study focused on cultivating Trichoderma reesei on different softwood substrates and analyzing the enzyme activity time courses, secretome analysis, and fungal micromorphology in response to changes in substrate characteristics. The results showed that substrate-induced changes in fungal response and the hydrolytic strength of secreted enzymes significantly impacted saccharification efficiencies. Cultivating T. reesei on specific substrates led to an improved hydrolytic strength of the enzyme mixture, potentially reaching the performance of a commercial enzyme preparation.
