An innovative approach to the application of electrochemical processes based on the in-situ generation of H2O2 for water treatment

Isaac Sanchez-Montes et al.

Summary: This study presents an innovative strategy for electrochemical treatment systems by in-situ generation of H2O2, which effectively removes organic contaminants in water. The H2O2 produced was activated by UVC light, resulting in the UVC/phi-H2O2 process. The method showed high efficiency in the degradation of organic contaminants and reduced energy consumption compared to conventional methods.

Extruded and overlapped geometries of feed spacers for solution mixing in electrochemical reactors and electrodialysis-related processes

Sajjad Khudhur Abbas Al-Amshawee et al.

Summary: This study discusses the designs of extruded and overlapped channel spacers, demonstrating the fundamental mechanisms that affect the hydrodynamics of the spacer-filled channel flow. The geometry of the spacers determines the flow dynamics and mass transfer rates. The attack angle also influences flow disturbance and pressure drop. New spacer designs should aim to improve membrane performance and reduce power consumption.

Bisphenol-S removal via photoelectro-fenton/H2O2 process using Co-porphyrin/Printex L6 gas diffusion electrode

Paulo Jorge Marques Cordeiro-Junior et al.

Summary: This study reports the development and application of a gas diffusion electrode (GDE) based on carbon Printex L6 modified with 5% Co-Porphyrin/CPL6 for the removal of Bisphenol S (BPS) in wastewater using different electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs). The modified GDE showed an increase in H2O2 generation compared to the unmodified GDE. The photo electro-Fenton (PEF) process exhibited the best degradation efficiency, completely removing BPS after 30 minutes of treatment.

Highly Efficient Electrochemical Production of Hydrogen Peroxide Using the GDE Technology

Paulo Jorge Marques Cordeiro-Junior et al.

Summary: This study examines the role of oxygen supply in improving the efficiency of H2O2 electrochemical production and generating high concentrations of H2O2 in discontinuous electrochemical processes. The results show that the solubility of oxygen does not significantly affect the efficiency of H2O2 production when using a GDE in a flow-by reactor.

Hydrogen peroxide generation from gas diffusion electrode for electrochemical degradation of organic pollutants in water: A review

Jinxin Xie et al.

Summary: This article provides an in-depth overview of various gas diffusion electrodes (GDEs) used in electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) for environmental remediation. The authors summarize the preparation, evaluation, and modification methods of GDEs and emphasize their applications as cathodes for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production and pollutants degradation in EAOPs. The article also highlights the prospects of GDEs for H2O2 production and water treatment in electro-Fenton, photoelectro-Fenton, and iron-free Fenton-like processes.

Maimuna Jatta et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that decontamination of N95 respirators with 59% hydrogen peroxide vapor has no significant impact on filtration efficiency or fit testing. This method can be safely used to decontaminate single-use N95 respirators in healthcare settings facing shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic. Further research and implementation may help address the ongoing challenges related to PPE shortages worldwide.

Mass transfer and residence time distribution in an electrochemical cell with an air-diffusion electrode: Effect of air pressure and mesh promoters

W. Shane Walker et al.

Summary: Electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) have demonstrated excellent capabilities in degrading recalcitrant organic pollutants, especially with Fenton-based electrochemical systems. However, challenges remain in scaling up these systems to higher technology readiness levels, particularly in areas such as liquid cross-flow velocity, ADE gas pressure, and the presence of mesh sheet mass transfer promoters. Further research is needed to address these challenges and exploit synergistic effects for the design of electrochemical cells with lower capital costs.
