Hydroxy sulfonic acid catalyzed hydrolysis of cellulose

Ananda S. Amarasekara et al.

Summary: In this study, hydroxy sulfonic acids were investigated as model compounds for cellulase enzyme for the hydrolysis of cellulose. The catalytic activities were measured by analyzing the total reducing sugar yields. The highest catalytic activity was observed with isethionic acid, which produced a yield of 62.7% at 180 degrees Celsius after 4 hours.
