Imidacloprid biodegradation using novel bacteria Tepidibacillus decaturensis strain ST1 in batch and in situ microcosm study

Sonam Tiwari et al.

Summary: A bacterial strain called Tepidibacillus decaturensis strain ST1 was isolated from agricultural soil samples, and it was found to effectively degrade imidacloprid. In both sterile and unsterile soils, the bacteria were able to degrade 77.5% and 85% of 200 ppm imidacloprid within 45 days. The degradation in soil followed first-order kinetics, and hydrazinecarboxamide and hydroxyurea were identified as metabolites through GC-MS analysis.

Dipak Kumar Kanaujiya et al.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of Cellulosimicrobium funkei for degrading dimethyl phthalate (DMP) and diethyl phthalate (DEP). The results showed that in a continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR), complete degradation of both DMP and DEP was achieved even at high initial concentrations, indicating good tolerance of C. funkei towards biodegradation.

Biodegradation and toxicity removal of phthalate mixture by Gordonia sp. in a continuous stirred tank bioreactor system

Dipak Kumar Kanaujiya et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the degradation of a mixture of six phthalates using Gordonia sp. The results showed that the degradation efficiency of dimethyl, diethyl, and dibutyl phthalates exceeded 99% even at high initial concentrations. The use of a continuous stirred tank bioreactor resulted in higher degradation efficiency compared to shake flasks. Moreover, the degradation of high molecular weight phthalates was better in the bioreactor.

Removal of pharmaceuticals and ecotoxicological changes in wastewater using Trametes versicolor : A comparison of fungal stirred tank and trickle-bed bioreactors

Rebeca Tormo-Budowski et al.

Summary: Hospital wastewater is rich in pharmaceutically active compounds (PhACs), which can end up in the environment due to the lack of effective treatments. White rot fungi, specifically Trametes versicolor, have shown to be an effective solution for this problem. Immobilizing the fungi in a lignocellulosic substrate has proved successful in treating wastewater. Two types of bioreactors, stirred tank and trickle-bed, were used in this study to treat synthetic and real hospital wastewater with T. versicolor. The trickle-bed bioreactor showed promising results in removing pharmaceuticals and detoxifying real wastewater.

Comparative toxicity assessment using plant and luminescent bacterial assays after anaerobic treatments of dyeing wastewater in a recirculating fixed bed bioreactor

Anuj Chaturvedi et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the treatment of simulated textile wastewater containing dye using a recirculating fixed-bed bioreactor in anaerobic and anaerobic-aerobic environments. While anaerobic treatment efficiently removed color, the integration with an aerobic step was needed to improve COD and TOC removal. Acute and chronic toxicities of treated dyeing water were compared using phytotoxicity and bacterial toxicity assays, showing that anaerobic-aerobic treatment significantly reduced the acute toxicity levels.
