Intelligent Reflecting Surface Assisted Interference Mitigation for Cellular-Connected UAV

Xiaowei Pang et al.

Summary: This research proposes a scheme to mitigate air-ground interference in the integration of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into cellular networks. By tuning the passive beamforming of intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs), interference from base stations to UAVs can be suppressed in the downlink, and interference from UAVs can be suppressed or enhanced in the uplink for interference cancellation. A hybrid interference cancellation scheme is also proposed to maximize the weighted sum rate of UAVs and ground users by optimizing the set of base stations and UAV's transmit power.

Empirical Low-Altitude Air-to-Ground Spatial Channel Characterization for Cellular Networks Connectivity

Xuesong Cai et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a recent measurement campaign for air-to-ground (A2G) propagation channels using a uniform circular array (UCA) with 16 antenna elements to collect downlink signals of two LTE networks at different heights in rural, urban, and industrial scenarios. Channel impulse responses (CIRs) were extracted and spatial parameters of multipath components in individual channels were estimated using a high-resolution-parameter-estimation (HRPE) principle. Clusters of multipath components were identified based on the HRPE results, and comprehensive spatial channel characteristics were investigated in composite and cluster levels at different heights in the three scenarios.
