A Multiport DC Power Flow Controller Embedded in Modular Multilevel DC Transformer

Jianwen Zhang et al.

Summary: Meshed dc or hybrid ac/dc distribution grids have attracted increasing interest lately and their power flow control is a major topic of study. This study proposes a new dc power flow controller (DCPFC) directly integrated in a modular multilevel dc transformer, which can effectively mitigate power flow congestion and line losses by optimizing the power flow of the connected feeders. The proposed DCPFC features a simple structure, convenience for multiport extension, and bidirectional power flow adjustment capability, without the need for an external power supply and high-voltage isolation transformer.

A Sharing-Branch Modular Multilevel DC Transformer With Wide Voltage Range Regulation for DC Distribution Grids

Haozhe Jin et al.

Summary: This article proposes a novel direct current transformer (DCT) for the interconnection of medium-voltage DC (MVdc) and low-voltage DC (LVdc) distribution grids. The DCT uses a series-connected half-bridge submodule branch (SSB) on the MV-side to achieve low voltage stress of devices and reduce the number of submodules. Quasi square wave modulation strategy and phase-shifted control are employed for bidirectional power transmission control and zero-voltage switching (ZVS) for all switches. The effectiveness of the proposed DCT is verified through theoretical analysis and simulation.

Jing Sheng et al.

Summary: This article studies the output voltage control strategy of modular multilevel resonant dc converters (MMRDC) for medium-voltage wide-input-range applications. The feasibility and influence of switching frequency regulation and modulation index regulation are investigated, and a design and control optimization method based on modulation index regulation and switching frequency regulation is proposed. Experimental validation shows that the optimized control methods are effective, with an efficiency over 96.4% under a wide input range.

Inherent SM Voltage Balance for Multilevel Circulant Modulation in Modular Multilevel DC-DC Converters

Shiyuan Fan et al.

Summary: This article extends the inherent balance concept previously shown for square-wave modulation to a multilevel version for MMDCs. By introducing a switching duty matrix, the inherent voltage balance is ensured. The study develops a generalized coprime criterion based on circulant matrix theory and verifies the effectiveness of the proposed circulant modulation through simulations and experiments in achieving SM voltage balance in an MMDC.
