Joint Multi-UAV Path Planning and LoS Communication for Mobile-Edge Computing in IoT Networks With RISs

Andrey V. V. Savkin et al.

Summary: This article proposes a joint path planning and communication scheduling problem for a team of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) performing computing tasks for IoT devices on uneven terrain. Reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs) are deployed to improve wireless communication between UAVs and IoT devices. The objective is to develop an algorithm that maximizes computing tasks performed by the UAVs and minimizes their energy consumption. An effective path planning algorithm is proposed and its asymptotic optimality is mathematically proven.

Disguised Tailing and Video Surveillance With Solar-Powered Fixed-Wing Unmanned Aerial Vehicle

Shuyan Hu et al.

Summary: This paper presents a new framework for optimizing the propulsion power and 3D trajectory of a solar-powered fixed-wing UAV for disguised tailing and video surveillance missions. Through multi-objective optimization, a balance is achieved between distance keeping, elevation variance, and power efficiency. By developing a new propulsion power model and utilizing non-trivial reformulations, the problem is solved with polynomial time-complexity, leading to improved visual disguise and power efficiency compared to existing schemes.

An Adaptive Path Replanning Method for Coordinated Operations of Drone in Dynamic Urban Environments

Yu Wu et al.

Summary: In this article, an adaptive path replanning (APReP) method is proposed for drones to respond to various dynamic changes in urban environments. Three strategies are developed for single-drone operation, and planning orders for multiple drones are determined by task priority, path planning strategy, and competition mechanism. The discrete rapidly exploring random tree (DRRT) algorithm is presented to generate the path in discrete urban environments, showing that the APReP algorithm is efficient in large-scale problems with multiple dynamic changes.

Joint Optimization of Trajectory, Propulsion, and Thrust Powers for Covert UAV-on-UAV Video Tracking and Surveillance

Shuyan Hu et al.

Summary: Tracking suspicious unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) autonomously with legitimate monitoring UAVs is crucial for public safety. Optimizing the trajectory of a monitor for UAV tracking can be challenging due to non-convex functions. This article introduces a novel framework to jointly optimize propulsion and thrust powers, as well as the 3D trajectory of a solar-powered monitor conducting covert UAV tracking. Extensive simulations show the proposed scheme's advantages over baseline schemes with partial or no disguising.
