An Improved Critical Current Calculation Method of HTS Field-Excitation Coil for Double-Stator HTS Generator With Stationary Seal

Yubin Wang et al.

Summary: This article proposes a calculation method for the critical current of HTS excitation coils made by Bi-2223 tapes, which can provide reference for their design and manufacture. The Jc-B model of the Bi-2223 tapes is used to separately describe the suppression effect of applied parallel and perpendicular magnetic fields on the critical current density, based on test data provided by the manufacturer. The method is verified by calculating the turns number and critical current of HTS excitation coils required to meet the target MMF, and conducting experimental tests on a 10 kW DS-HTSM prototype.

Summary: This article proposes a stator-excitation axial-flux magnetic gear (SEAMG) that improves the mechanical reliability and processing difficulty of existing coaxial rotor-excitation MGs. By placing the permanent magnets (PMs) on the stator, the SEAMG enhances mechanical robustness and operational reliability. The axial-flux pattern allows for easy fixation of the stator and convenient access to high- and low-speed rotor shafts. The SEAMG's operation principle, design considerations, and prototype evaluation are explained.

Incorporating Harmonic-Analysis-Based Loss Minimization Into MPTC for Efficiency Improvement of FCFMPM Motor

Xianglin Li et al.

Summary: According to the air-gap field-modulation theory, multiple field harmonics contribute to the high torque density of field modulation motors. However, excessive field harmonics result in increased motor losses, particularly iron loss and PM eddy-current loss. To address this issue, this article proposes a harmonic-analysis-based loss minimization method, which is integrated into model predictive torque control for improving the efficiency of field-modulation motors. By analyzing the loss generation mechanism, an online loss calculation model based on harmonics is developed to facilitate loss minimization control. The proposed method provides a more accurate loss calculation compared to conventional model-based approaches, which lack emphasis on harmonic-based loss analysis. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method effectively reduces losses and improves efficiency.
