Current Flow Simulation of Assembled Conductors for Field Coils of Liquid Hydrogen-Cooled High-Temperature Superconducting Generator

M. Ohya et al.

Summary: High-temperature superconducting (HTS) generators combined with a hydrogen gas turbine have the potential to reduce CO2 emissions in Japan by realizing zero-emission power generation. The system uses the cold energy of liquid hydrogen, eliminating the need for a refrigerator and reducing cooling costs. The ultimate goal is to commercialize a 600 MW-class liquid hydrogen-cooled HTS generator with specific conductor requirements.

Enhanced critical axial tensile strain limit of CORC® wires: FEM and analytical modeling

V. A. Anvar et al.

Summary: CORC(R) wires, composed of spiraled high-temperature superconducting rare-earth barium copper oxide tapes, demonstrate high resilience and flexibility in carrying high currents. Optimizing the design by varying parameters such as winding angle and core's Poisson's ratio can increase the irreversible strain limit of the wires.

High-temperature superconducting CORC® wires with record-breaking axial tensile strain tolerance present a breakthrough for high-field magnets

D. C. van der Laan et al.

Summary: High-temperature cuprate superconductors have enabled the development of high-field superconducting magnets. By mechanically decoupling the brittle REBCO film from the overall conductor, a more than tenfold increase in the irreversible strain limit has been achieved. This breakthrough allows for reliable high-field superconducting magnets, opening up opportunities for compact fusion machines and next-generation particle accelerators.
