The Bronze Processed Nb3Sn Ultra-Thin Superconducting Wires

Akihiro Kikuchi et al.

Summary: In this study, Nb3Sn ultra-thin wire was fabricated using the bronze process, achieving a single wire length of over 7,000 m without breakages. We also demonstrated the transport critical current values of cables made from this wire at 4.2 K and 4 T. Additionally, the bending effect on the transport critical current of cables was investigated, showing significant degradation in cables with solder impregnation.

Design and manufacture of a micro-tensile testing machine for in situ optical observation and DIC analysis: application to 3D-printed and compression-molded ABS

Sina Nazari-Onlaghi et al.

Summary: A novel micro-tensile testing apparatus was designed and built to characterize the micromechanical behavior of materials, offering a solution for handling and aligning micro specimens. The device, integrated with an optical microscope, allowed for observation of microstructural evolution during deformation. The use of DIC technique on optical images revealed differences in strain localization between 3D-printed and compression-molded specimens, demonstrating the success of the apparatus and technique in in situ characterization of mechanical response.

Ultra-Fine Nb3Al Mono-Core Wires and Cables

Akihiro Kikuchi et al.

Summary: The study shows that the critical current density of Nb3Al wires increases with decreasing diameter, with the maximum Jc obtained on 30 m diameter wires. A 7-wire round cable and a 3rd bundle Rutherford cable have been successfully fabricated using these wires. Transport current tests showed no differences in Ic and n-values between different processes.
