Simultaneous in situ Direction Finding and Field Manipulation Based on Space-Time-Coding Digital Metasurface

Jun Yan Dai et al.

Summary: The paper proposes a millimeter-wave space-time-coding digital metasurface (STCM) for simultaneous direction finding and field manipulation. By modulating the STCM with a space-time-coding (STC) matrix, both direction finding and electromagnetic field manipulation capabilities are achieved. The feasibility and robustness of direction finding are experimentally verified using three different STC matrices corresponding to different electromagnetic functions. This research sets the stage for the integrated implementation of radio environment perception and response, which may have promising applications in future intelligent wireless networks and self-adaptive systems.

Mingtuan Lin et al.

Summary: This article proposes a novel DOA estimation method based on a single programmable metasurface sensor. By using a dynamic metasurface as a physical random sampling receiver, the DOA information is recovered through compressive sensing (CS) orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) algorithm. The mathematical model and numerical simulations show that the metasurface-based CS method has superior performance in DOA estimation compared to beam-scanning methods, confirming its feasibility.
