Effect of axial static magnetic field on microstructure evolution, performance, and melt pool signals of AlSi10Mg fabricated by laser powder bed fusion

Hanxiang Zhou et al.

Summary: Static magnetic field (SMF) assisted laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) has the potential to improve the mechanical properties of AlSi10Mg parts, mainly by increasing relative density and refining the microstructure. The mechanism of the magnetic field within the melt pool is still unknown. In-situ monitoring technology provides valuable information about the melt pool area, temperature gradient, radiation emission, and spatters, enhancing understanding of the SMF-assisted LPBF process.

Differentiation of materials and laser powder bed fusion processing regimes from airborne acoustic emission combined with machine learning

Rita Drissi-Daoudi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of a low-cost microphone combined with state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms as online process monitoring for differentiating materials and process regimes in Laser-Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF). The study demonstrates that the acoustic emission (AE) features are related to the laser-material interaction, and a single model can accurately classify different process regimes and materials. By using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) with a multi-label architecture, a very high classification accuracy can be achieved for both materials and process regimes. This research shows the potential of our approaches for online LPBF process monitoring of different materials and regimes.

Application of an improved variational mode decomposition algorithm in leakage location detection of water supply pipeline

Juan Li et al.

Summary: An improved adaptive VMD method is proposed in this paper, which can adaptively determine the quadratic penalty item a for each BLIMF based on the frequency characteristics of the signal. The energy loss coefficient and the correlation of adjacent BLIMFs are used as evaluation indices to determine the best number of modes K. This method significantly improves the accuracy of leak location in water pipelines.

Henry C. de Winton et al.

Summary: In this study, a methodology and set of metrics are proposed for the objective comparison of in-situ monitoring systems in additive manufacturing processes. The comparison between photodiodes and high-speed cameras showed that the camera-based system offers a better trade-off between detection and false alarms in detecting part-wide porosity increases.ROC and POD curves were used to quantify the detection capabilities of the two systems, with the camera-based system outperforming the photodiode system in most cases.
