A 28 GHz 8 x 8 Gapwaveguide Phased Array Employing GaN Front-End With 60 dBm EIRP

Alireza Bagheri et al.

Summary: A cost-efficient, high equivalent isotropic radiated power (60 dBm), large-bandwidth (26.5-29.5 GHz) active phased array antenna system has been designed and experimentally verified. The system reduces production costs by employing GaN-based RFFEs with 31 dBm output power, which allows for a reduced number of antenna elements. The use of fully metallic GW technology enables efficient heat dissipation and low-loss easy-to-manufacture antenna elements. The antenna demonstrates +/- 60 degrees analog beamforming in the E-plane and has the potential to be used as a compact-size high-performance 5G base station antenna with excellent temperature stability.

Millimeter-Wave Dual-Band Dual-Polarized SIW Cavity-Fed Filtenna for 5G Applications

Rong Lu et al.

Summary: This article presents a dual-band dual-polarized filtenna for 5G applications, which achieves desirable out-of-band rejection. The filtenna consists of two fully-shielded quarter-mode substrate integrated waveguide cavities and a dual-band stacked ring antenna, coupled through a ground slot. The proposed design successfully improves stopband attenuation and covers the 5G n258 and n260 bands. Experimental results confirm the satisfactory performance of the filtenna and its potential as a promising candidate for 5G communication.

Solving Sub-Wavelength Lattice Reduction in Full-Metal Front-Ends for Dual-Polarized Active Antennas

Lucas Polo-Lopez et al.

Summary: This article proposes an original structure of evanescent quadridge antenna (EQA) for dual-polarized full-metal front-ends in active antennas (AAs) with wide field-of-view (FoV). It introduces a new design methodology that uses evanescent and quadridge waveguides to induce radiation from subwavelength squared apertures. The proposed structure demonstrates good performance, providing dual-circular polarization (CP) even in the diagonal plane.
