Summary: Bregmaceros mcclellandi, abundant along the north-west coast of India, is economically valuable and ecologically vital. A case study of hyperpigmentation in a mature female specimen revealed no morphological differences compared to normal individuals, making this observation a rare occurrence in the wild population. The novel finding of hyperpigmentation in B. mcclellandi is the first recorded instance in the family Bregmacerotidae.
