Spectrophotometry of the lunar regolith using the Chang'E-3 Panoramic Camera (PCAM)

T. Y. Xu et al.

Summary: This study presents a multiband photometric study of the lunar mare surface based on in situ measurements using the Panoramic Camera on board the Chang'E-3 mission. The results reveal the differences in phase functions and photometric properties at different measuring sites.

In situ lunar phase curves measured by Chang'E-4 in the Von Karman Crater, South Pole-Aitken basin

Te Jiang et al.

Summary: The Yutu-2 rover of the Chang'E-4 mission measured lunar phase curves in the Von Karman crater, South Pole-Aitken basin. The results compared with Chang'E-3 showed that the regolith at the CE-4 landing site is darker, more porous, and has experienced more space weathering alterations.

Unveiling the Secrets of the Midinfrared (3-5 μm) Moon

Yunzhao Wu et al.

Summary: The appearance of the Moon in the mid-infrared (MIR) is still a mystery, but detailed images taken by a high-resolution geostationary satellite show limb darkening and temperature variation across the lunar disk. The absolute and relative brightness distribution of the MIR Moon changes with the solar incidence angle, reflecting both reflection and emission from the lunar surface.

Spectrophotometric properties of materials observed by Pancam on the Mars Exploration Rovers: 4. Final mission observations

Jeffrey R. Johnson et al.

Summary: The study examined the scattering and microphysical nature of rock and soil units at two Mars sites using data collected by the Panoramic Camera (Pancam) of Mars Exploration Rovers Spirit and Opportunity. Different surface behaviors were observed in gray rock units, soils, and red rocks coated with dust, with indications of rough, low-porosity surfaces and uniform grain size distributions. Dust deposits showed elevated values possibly indicative of hydration, suggesting surface scattering plays a major role in controlling the peak phase angle position.

Photometry of asteroid (101955) Bennu with OVIRS on OSIRIS-REx

Xiao-Duan Zou et al.

Summary: This study investigates the global photometric properties of asteroid Bennu observed by NASA’s OSIRIS-REx spacecraft using multiple models, correcting for phase reddening and deriving a bolometric Bond albedo map. It is found that Bennu is brighter than some previously visited asteroids and comets, with a blueish spectrum showing an absorption feature at 2.74 μm. The spectroscopic photometry of Bennu is compared with imaging photometry from the OSIRIS-REx mission and groundbased predictions.
