Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease predicts new onset of chronic kidney disease better than fatty liver or nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Marenao Tanaka et al.

Summary: The study found a modest and independent association between MAFLD and new onset of CKD, and MAFLD was a better predictor for the development of CKD compared to FL or NAFLD.

Acute coronary syndrome and renal impairment: a systematic review

Marco Di Mauro et al.

Summary: This article reviews the relationship between kidney dysfunction and acute coronary syndromes (ACS), and discusses strategies to prevent deterioration of renal function in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). The results suggest that patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) receive less invasive management and potent antithrombotic drugs, but recent evidence suggests they may benefit from selective invasive management.

Increased LDL-cholesterol level is associated with deterioration of renal function in males

Arata Osanami et al.

Summary: This study examines the relationship between serum lipid levels and the time course of renal function in a cohort of healthy subjects. The findings suggest that a high LDL-C level may be a risk factor for new-onset chronic kidney disease in apparently healthy males.

Masked CKD in hyperthyroidism and reversible CKD status in hypothyroidism

Natsumi Uchiyama-Matsuoka et al.

Summary: This study explored the changes in kidney function before and after treatment for thyroid disorders and the factors affecting these changes. The results showed a decrease in renal function in patients with hyperthyroidism and an increase in renal function in patients with hypothyroidism after treatment. The study also revealed the presence of masked CKD in hyperthyroidism and reversible CKD status in hypothyroidism. These findings highlight the importance of monitoring kidney function after hyperthyroidism treatment and evaluating thyroid function in CKD patients as well as providing appropriate hormone therapy for patients with hypothyroidism.

The Mysterious Universe of the TSH Receptor

Ines Henriques Vieira et al.

Summary: The thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor (TSH-R) is expressed mainly in thyroid cells and also in various other tissues. While its functionality has been demonstrated in many tissues, its physiological importance is still debated. However, its contribution is evident in certain pathological processes.

Fatty liver index is independently associated with deterioration of renal function during a 10-year period in healthy subjects

Satoko Takahashi et al.

Summary: This study suggests a potential link between non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) in both men and women, with a higher fatty liver index (FLI) at baseline associated with an increased risk of CKD development. The addition of FLI to traditional risk factors significantly improves the ability to predict CKD.

Landscape of GPCR expression along the mouse nephron

Brian G. Poll et al.

Summary: This study utilized RNA sequencing and protein mass spectrometry data to identify patterns of GPCR expression along the renal tubule. By comparing these data, it revealed expression patterns for both well-known GPCRs and identified novel GPCRs that are likely to play roles in regulating renal tubule function.
