Changing Epidemiology of Oral Cavity Cancer in the United States

Summary: This study aimed to determine the efficacy of worst pattern of invasion (WPOI) and other histopathological features in oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC), and analyze the impact of resection margin status and histopathological prognostic indicators on local recurrence (LR) and overall survival (OS). The results showed that WPOI and perineural invasion (PNI) were predictive factors for LR and DFS, and WPOI was also a predictive factor for OS. Therefore, WPOI and PNI are significant independent prognostic factors for local tumor control and DFS in patients with OCSCC.

Stage-Specific Survival in Young Patients With Oral Tongue Squamous Cell Carcinoma

Summary: This study aimed to determine the demographic factors and clinicopathologic characteristics associated with survival in young patients with early- or late-stage OTSCC. The results showed that high tumor grade, metastasis, and tumor size were predictors of mortality in both early- and late-stage OTSCC. More aggressive treatment may improve outcomes in early-stage cases with high-risk features.

Depth of invasion in early oral cancers- is it an independent prognostic factor?

Summary: This study investigates the prognosis of early oral cancer patients under different neck treatment regimens and finds that depth of invasion is associated with neck metastasis and adverse tumor factors. Elective neck dissection negates the impact of depth of invasion on the prognosis of early oral cancers, but T3 tumors with a DOI greater than 10mm still have a higher association with other adverse risk factors, leading to poorer outcomes.
