Absolute and Relative Reliability of a Comprehensive Quantitative Sensory Testing Protocol in Women Treated for Breast Cancer

Lore Dams et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the relative and absolute intra- and inter-rater reliability of a comprehensive QST protocol in assessing the somatosensory nervous system in breast cancer patients. While mechanical thresholds, pressure pain thresholds, and temporal summation showed moderate to excellent reliability, the reliability of the CPM paradigm was considered weak. The QST protocol was found suitable for identifying differences between subjects and for individual follow-up in breast cancer patients after surgery within a 1-week time frame, with further research needed to improve the stability of CPM testing.

Exploring the relationship between meaningful conditioned pain modulation and stress system reactivity in healthy adults following exposure to the cold pressor task

Michael J. Lukacs et al.

Summary: This study found that meaningful conditioned pain modulation (CPM) is not universally experienced, with only 30% of participants experiencing inhibitory CPM. Inhibitory CPM may be associated with an increase in sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activity in healthy participants in reaction to noxious cold.

Gaining more insight into ankle pain in haemophilia: A study exploring pain, structural and functional evaluation of the ankle joint

Nathalie Anne Roussel et al.

Summary: Ankle arthropathy is common among people with haemophilia and often leads to pain and disability. This study found that structural damage in the ankle is not related to pain severity in patients with haemophilia. Future research should consider somatosensory nervous system dysfunction as a contributing factor to painful ankle arthropathy.

Nociplastic Pain Criteria or Recognition of Central Sensitization? Pain Phenotyping in the Past, Present and Future

Jo Nijs et al.

Summary: IASP has recently released new clinical criteria for nociplastic pain affecting the musculoskeletal system, aiming to help clinicians identify and classify patients with chronic pain more accurately. These new criteria are more comprehensive and robust, representing important steps towards precision pain medicine, although further studies are needed to validate their clinimetric and psychometric properties.
