Clinical guidance for the use of dupilumab in eosinophilic esophagitis A yardstick

Seema S. Aceves et al.

Summary: The Joint Task Force for the American Academy of Allergy Asthma Immunology and American College of Allergy Asthma Immunology and the American Gastroenterology Association recently published guidelines for the management of eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). With the publication of these guidelines, dupilumab has become the first and only medication to gain regulatory approval for the treatment of EoE. This expert opinion document provides a framework for clinicians to consider using dupilumab in the treatment strategy for patients with EoE.

Ikuo Hirano et al.

Summary: This study showed that Budesonide oral suspension (BOS) 2.0 mg twice daily was superior to placebo in improving symptoms, histologic, and endoscopic outcomes in patients with EoE over 12 weeks. BOS 2.0 mg twice daily was well tolerated.

Long-Lasting Dissociation of Esophageal Eosinophilia and Symptoms After Dilation in Adults With Eosinophilic Esophagitis

Ekaterina Safroneeva et al.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of esophageal dilation on the association between symptoms and peak esophageal eosinophils in eosinophilic esophagitis patients. The results showed that in non-dilated patients, there was a moderate correlation between symptoms and eosinophils, which disappeared after dilation, and the effects of dilation lasted for more than 1 year.

Summary: This study aimed to create an international consensus severity scoring index for eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE). A multidisciplinary team of experts successfully created a clinically usable scoring system, called I-SEE, which can help standardize the assessment of disease severity and guide EoE management.
