Microwave-assisted synthesis of α-Fe2O3/ZnFe2O4/ZnO ternary hybrid nanostructures for photocatalytic applications

Shipra Choudhary et al.

Summary: This study reports the use of magnetically separable alpha-Fe2O3/ZnFe2O4/ZnO ternary hybrid nanodiscs for solar-driven highly efficient photocatalytic decomposition of toxic organic contaminants. The hybrid nanostructures showed excellent photocatalytic performance under solar light illumination, efficiently decomposing organic dyes and demonstrating reusability and easy magnetic separation. In-situ scavenger studies identified center dot OH radicals as the main active radicals in the photocatalysis process.

Glycine-nitrate combustion engineering of neodymium cobaltite nanocrystals

Ekaterina Alekseevna Tugova et al.

Summary: NdCoO3 nanocrystals prepared via glycine-nitrate combustion method and heat treatment rapidly form at 550-600 degrees C with sizes of 7-10 nm, showing good correlation between empirical and experimental data from X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy. The unique nanoporous microstructure and spatial limitations prevent particle growth. The kinetic equation based on Avrami-Erofeev nucleation model correlates well with experimental data, and the apparent activation energy for formation is determined.

Catalytic and photocatalytic properties of zinc-nickel ferrites

M. P. Tsvetkov et al.

Summary: A synthetic method combining high energy ball-milling and calcination at 900 degrees C was used to prepare mixed metal oxides of the type Zn1-xNixFe2O4. Characterization using various spectroscopic techniques showed that increasing Ni(II) content enhanced both catalytic and photocatalytic activities, particularly in the decomposition of methanol and degradation of malachite green. The stability of the samples as photocatalysts was confirmed by atomic absorption spectroscopy analysis of reaction liquor.
