Development and Assessment of a High-Resolution Biogenic Emission Inventory from Urban Green Spaces in China

Mingchen Ma et al.

Summary: BVOC emissions from urban green spaces, known as U-BVOC emissions, have been largely ignored due to low-resolution land cover data. With a new high-resolution dataset, it is now possible to evaluate their significant role in urban environments, especially in megacities. The newly constructed U-BVOC emission inventory provides an improved dataset for studying the modulation of BVOCs on ozone, SOA, and atmospheric chemistry in urban areas.

Threat by marine heatwaves to adaptive large marine ecosystems in an eddy-resolving model

Xiuwen Guo et al.

Summary: This study using a high-resolution Earth system model reveals that future intensity and annual days of marine heatwaves (MHWs) over large marine ecosystems (LMEs) will remain higher than in the present-day climate. The better resolution of ocean mesoscale eddies enables more realistic simulations of MHWs compared to low-resolution models. These findings suggest that the increasing MHWs under global warming pose a serious threat to LMEs.

Isolating the modulation of mean warming and higher-order temperature changes on ozone in a changing climate over the contiguous United States

Junxi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study reveals that climate change affects surface ozone primarily through the changes in mean warming and higher-order moments of temperature. Mean warming has a significant impact on ozone concentration, while changes in higher-order moments of temperature can partially offset ozone exceedance. The opposite changes in higher-order moments in different regions lead to different impacts on ozone exceedance.

Strong influence of north Pacific Ocean variability on Indian summer heatwaves

Vittal Hari et al.

Summary: A new study reveals that the occurrence of summer heatwaves in India is influenced by the large scale atmospheric circulation associated with the Pacific Meridional Mode. The study identifies a significant link between the positive phase of the PMM and increased intensity and duration of heatwaves in North Central India. The findings also suggest that future heatwaves could become even more intense due to anthropogenic warming, which has important implications for mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Changingspatio-temporaltrends of heat wave and severe heat wave events over India: An emerging health hazard

Saumya Singh et al.

Summary: The study reveals a spatio-temporal shift in the occurrence of heat wave events in India, with significant increasing trends in some regions while decreasing trends in others. Severe heat wave events showed a southward expansion and spatial surge during the 2001-2010 and 2010-2016 decades. Post the 1980s, there has been an increase in the number of heat wave and severe heat wave events every decade.
