Seasonal morphodynamics of multiple intertidal bars (MITBs) on a meso- to macrotidal beach

Melanie Biausque et al.

Summary: The study investigated the morphological changes in multiple intertidal bar beach systems in relation to temporal and spatial hydrodynamic forcing using field survey data from Dundrum Bay, Northern Ireland, and SWAN wave model simulations. It found that seasonal variations in wave conditions affected the stability and migration of the sandbars, with complex patterns of sediment movement observed. Ultimately, the results challenge the traditional seasonal equilibrium model for MITB systems and emphasize the importance of longer-term sediment dynamics.

Assessing Storm Response of Multiple Intertidal Bars Using an Open-Source Automatic Processing Toolbox

Anne-Lise Montreuil et al.

Summary: This study presents the morphological response of a multibarred macro-tidal beach along the Belgian coast after a severe storm. The PROTECT toolbox was used to extract and analyze the intertidal bars. The results showed significant erosion of the dune and upper-beach zone, followed by a full recovery after 9 months. However, the sand budget in the intertidal zone did not change, indicating significant morphological changes of the bars.

Structure-from-Motion-Derived Digital Surface Models from Historical Aerial Photographs: A New 3D Application for Coastal Dune Monitoring

Edoardo Grottoli et al.

Summary: Recent advances in structure-from-motion techniques have led to the widespread use of UAVs in monitoring coastal landform changes, with the best method resulting in an error value of 0.93 m. The application of modern SfM methodology to historical aerial photography analysis is a novel and reliable approach for quantifying coastal dune volume changes.

Sediment dynamics and morphological evolution in the Tagus Estuary inlet

A. B. Fortunato et al.

Summary: The research analyzed the morphological evolution of the Tagus estuary inlet in the last century, proposing a new morphodynamic model to explain its dynamics, highlighting unanswered questions in the dynamics of the inlet. Through this study, it was found that a seasonal behavior of the inlet's dynamics exists, with different sediment transport patterns during winter and maritime summer, indicating a future continuation of the evolution of the inlet.
