The Mina Justa Iron Oxide Copper-Gold (IOCG) Deposit, Peru: Constraints on Metal and Ore Fluid Sources

Maria A. Rodriguez-Mustafa et al.

Summary: IOCG deposits are major sources of copper and contain abundant iron oxides. The study on the Mina Justa IOCG deposit in Peru suggests that the magnetite in the deposit belongs to an iron oxide-apatite mineralization, and the ore fluids carrying iron and copper originated from magmatic-hydrothermal sources. Input from meteoric water and basinal brines can be ruled out.

The Origin and Discrimination of High-Ti Magnetite in Magmatic-Hydrothermal Systems: Insight from Machine Learning Analysis

Bin Hu et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that high-Ti magnetite, previously believed to be of igneous origin, can also originate from high-temperature hydrothermal deposits. This challenges the existing discriminant diagrams and calls for necessary modifications. In this study, statistical analysis and machine learning techniques were used to build models for identifying high-Ti magnetite of different origins. A new discrimination diagram was developed, and the results suggest a magmatic-hydrothermal origin for the magnetite in iron oxide-apatite deposits.

Constraints of Fe-O isotopes on the origin of magnetite in the El Laco Kiruna-type iron deposit, Chile

Qiuhong Xie et al.

Summary: The El Laco iron deposit in Pliocene is believed to be a high-temperature orthomagmatic origin based on the Fe and O isotopic data, indicating that the magnetite ores may not come from the ore-hosting andesitic melt, but from a more mafic Fe-rich parental melt.

Discriminate between magmatic- and magmatic-hydrothermal ore deposits using Fe isotopes

Yue Wang et al.

Summary: The study reveals distinct characteristics of iron isotopes in magmatic and magmatic-hydrothermal origin iron deposits, indicating fractionation processes in magma immiscibility and hydrothermal fluid exsolution. This suggests that iron isotopes can effectively discriminate between mineral deposits of different origins.
