Experimental Investigation of Oxide Leaching Methods for Li Isotopes

Chun-Yao Liu et al.

Summary: This study conducted leaching experiments on different types of silicate solids to examine the applicability of various leaching methods for extracting secondary oxides for lithium isotope measurement. The concentration of hydroxylamine hydrochloride, leaching temperature, leaching time, and reagent/solid ratio were assessed as factors. The recommended conditions for effective leaching were determined based on elemental concentrations and Li isotopes. The study also compared secondary oxides with corresponding solutions to estimate isotopic fractionation.

Lithium isotope behaviour during basalt weathering experiments amended with organic acids

Philip A. E. Pogge von Strandmann et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of organic acids on lithium isotope behavior and finds that organic acids have significant effects on dissolved elemental concentrations, but little effect on lithium isotopes. The results have important implications for understanding the role of plants in weathering and the geological record.

Updated estimates of sedimentary potassium sequestration and phosphorus release on the Amazon shelf

Timo Spiegel et al.

Summary: This study identifies processes of sedimentary potassium sequestration and phosphorus release on the Amazon shelf. By quantifying the fluxes of these elements, it is shown that alterations of riverine shelf sediments significantly affect the concentrations of dissolved K+ and P in the global ocean.

Nickel and its isotopes in the Amazon Basin: The impact of the weathering regime and delivery to the oceans

Summary: Nickel is an important bio-active element in the oceans and studying its presence in rivers helps understand the marine ecological balance. The dissolved load of rivers is a significant source of nickel to the oceans.

Seasonal variability in silicate weathering signatures recorded by Li isotopes in cave drip-waters

David J. Wilson et al.

Summary: Silicate weathering is a crucial process in Earth's carbon cycle, and the study suggests that temperature and fluid residence time may influence the balance between primary rock dissolution and secondary mineral formation in the weathering process. The variability of Li isotopes on short temporal and spatial scales is important for interpreting past weathering processes or flux changes from paleo-records.

The riverine flux of molybdenum and its isotopes to the ocean: Weathering processes and dissolved-particulate partitioning in the Amazon basin

Brandi N. Revels et al.

Summary: The study found that dissolved load dominates over particulate load for molybdenum in Amazonian rivers, and molybdenum isotope data show systematic variability between river types and seasons. Variations in molybdenum isotopes across tributaries and seasons are best explained by processes related to weathering regime, indicating significant temporal variability in the riverine source of molybdenum to the oceans controlled by tectonic and climate impacts.

Decoupling of dissolved and particulate Li isotopes during estuarine processes

Summary: Research on the behavior of lithium isotopes in the Changjiang (Yangtze) River estuary shows that the riverine dissolved Li isotopic signal is not modified during estuarine processes in large rivers. However, caution should be exercised when using detrital delta Li-7 in marginal seas to investigate past continental weathering.
