Dyke Architecture, Mineral Layering, and Magmatic Convection; New Perspectives From the Younger Giant Dyke Complex, S Greenland

L. Koopmans et al.

Summary: This study examines the influence of emplacement and geometry of igneous sheet intrusions on subsequent magma flow and mush evolution. The results show that the initial geometry of sheet intrusions can constrain magma flow patterns and affect the distribution of crystallization regimes. Magma convection occurs within the cores of each dyke element.

The dismembering of the Adria platforms following the Late Cretaceous-Eocene abortive rift: a review of the tectono-stratigraphic record in the southern Apennines

Stefano Vitale et al.

Summary: This study presents a review of the tectono-stratigraphic evolution of the Maastrichtian-Miocene period in the southern Apennines, focusing on the rift event that dismembered the Apennine and Apulian platforms. The study describes the sedimentation patterns, including calciclastic supply and drowning of shallow-water realms, along with a comparison with other regions like Sicily and Dinarids. The reconstructed paleogeographic map shows the re-emergence of the platforms surrounded by slope-to-deep basin sectors.

Fault systems in the offshore sector of the Campi Flegrei caldera (southern Italy): Implications for nested caldera structure, resurgent dome, and volcano-tectonic evolution

Jacopo Natale et al.

Summary: The structure of a caldera plays a crucial role in its activity. In the Campi Flegrei offshore area, two main fault systems were identified, related to the formation of the caldera and the resurgent dome. The activity of ring and dome faults, volcaniclastic sedimentation, ground deformation, and sea-level changes interplayed in the volcano-tectonic evolution over the past 40,000 years.

Spatial and temporal volcanotectonic evolution of Santorini volcano, Greece

Kyriaki Drymoni et al.

Summary: This study presents a detailed structural analysis of the northern caldera wall of Santorini volcano, focusing on the relationship between dyking and faulting. By combining field observations, previous studies, and geophysical data, the authors provide insights on the volcanotectonic evolution of the island and propose a conceptual spatial-temporal model. Their findings shed light on the conditions under which faults facilitate or inhibit magma propagation during volcanic activity.

The Volsci Volcanic Field (central Italy): eruptive history, magma system and implications on continental subduction processes

F. Marra et al.

Summary: In this study, the Quaternary Volsci Volcanic Field in central Italy was investigated with new geochronological data and compositional analysis of eruptive products. The research revealed a history of volcanic activity and its implications on magma systems and subduction processes. The fast ascent of primitive magma batches is suggested to be controlled by tectonic forces in a compressive stress field.

Photogrammetry Using UAV-Mounted GNSS RTK: Georeferencing Strategies without GCPs

Martin Stroner et al.

Summary: This study examines systematic elevation errors in georeferencing UAV-acquired imagery without using ground control points (GCPs), and proposes strategies for eliminating this error. By conducting multiple flights at different altitudes and image acquisition axes, the research demonstrates a linear dependence between focal length deviation and systematic elevation error, and shows that a combination of two flights with different image acquisition axes can reduce the error to less than 0.03 meters. Overall, georeferencing without GCPs is a feasible alternative to traditional methods.

Reconstructing the Late Pleistocene - Anthropocene interaction between the neotectonic and archaeological landscape evolution in the Apennines (La Sassa cave, Italy)

L. Alessandri et al.

Summary: Caves are conservative environments where archaeological, anthropological, climatic, and tectonic data can be well-preserved. The multidisciplinary study on La Sassa cave in the Apennines reveals interactions between Late Pleistocene to Anthropocene neotectonics and archaeological evolution, shedding light on faulting chronology, cultural boundaries, and seismic hazard implications in the region.

Constraining the Passive to Active Margin Tectonics of the Internal Central Apennines: Insights from Biostratigraphy, Structural, and Seismic Analysis

Giovanni Luca Cardello et al.

Summary: The study documents the polyphase structural evolution of a sector within the internal Central Apennines, focusing on the debated significance of pelagic deposits, neritic carbonate platform, and active margin sediments. It integrates new geological survey results from the Volsci Range with analysis of seismic reflection lines and well data in the adjacent Latin Valley. The findings reveal Late Cretaceous faults linking a carbonate platform to a pelagic basin, Tortonian events with pelagic deposits squeezed off onto the platform, and subsequent in-sequence thrusting followed by Pliocene to recent uplift and extension by normal faults. These results have implications for understanding the kinematic evolution of orogenic wedges influenced by far-traveled units.
