Safety assessment and probiotic characteristics of Enterococcus lactis JDM1

Xiaomei Fu et al.

Summary: The study assessed the safety and probiotic characteristics of the newly isolated Enterococcus lactis strain JDM1. JDM1 demonstrated good gastrointestinal tolerance and inhibitory effects on the growth of certain pathogenic bacteria. Its genome contained both resistance-related and virulence-related genes, with resistance genes being mostly conserved and virulence factors not contributing to functional pathogenicity.

The genomic basis of the Streptococcus thermophilus health-promoting properties

Emeline Roux et al.

Summary: The study analyzed various health-related functions at the genome level of Streptococcus thermophilus strains isolated from diverse products and locations. While some functions are widely conserved among isolates, others such as the tagatose-6-phosphate pathway and the production of bioactive peptides and gamma-aminobutyric acid are strain-specific. The study also investigated the genetic basis for phenotypic diversity in certain health-related traits among strains.

Safety Assessment of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum TWK10 Based on Whole-Genome Sequencing, Phenotypic, and Oral Toxicity Analysis

Han-Yin Hsu et al.

Summary: In this study, the safety of TWK10 was comprehensively assessed both in vivo and in vitro. The results showed that TWK10 did not cause genetic mutations, chromosomal abnormalities, red blood cell abnormalities, or subacute toxicity. Additionally, TWK10 was susceptible to all antibiotics tested, except kanamycin, and no antimicrobial resistance genes, virulence factors, or genes involved in biogenic amine synthesis were found in its genome.

Isolation and characterization of a novel human intestinal Enterococcus faecium FUA027 capable of producing urolithin A from ellagic acid

Xiaomeng Zhang et al.

Summary: Urolithin A (UA) has health benefits and its production from ellagic acid (EA) by gut bacteria is poorly understood. In this study, a strain of Enterococcus faecium capable of converting EA into UA was isolated from fecal samples. UA production peaked at 50 hours, with a concentration of 10.80 mu M. This isolated strain provides valuable insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying the biotransformation of EA into UA.

Lactococcus garvieae FUA009, a Novel Intestinal Bacterium Capable of Producing the Bioactive Metabolite Urolithin A from Ellagic Acid

Haoyu Mi et al.

Summary: Dietary polyphenol ellagic acid has beneficial effects on health, but few gut microbes can metabolize it to produce urolithins. In this study, a novel bacterium called Lactococcus garvieae FUA009 was isolated from feces, which can convert ellagic acid to urolithin A. Moreover, FUA009 was determined to be safe and showed potential probiotic properties based on its genome sequence and phenotype analysis.
