Genetic variability of Artemia franciscana populations from different salterns of southeast coast of India

Summary: The study investigated the genetic variability among populations of Artemia franciscana from different hypersaline habitats along the southeast coast of India. Two different RAPD markers were used to analyze the genetic variations, revealing the presence of two distinct genetic groups within the population.

Genetic pattern fluctuations in wild swimming crab populations, under the influence of continuous mass stock enhancement

Summary: Genetic diversity in the swimming crab populations in China remains high, but deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium and unstable genetic diversity indices were observed over time. The large-scale stock enhancement of the swimming crab has altered the genetic status of local population structure.

Genetic diversity and population structure of Artemia franciscana from southeast coast of India

Thirunavukkarasu Subramani et al.

Summary: This study assessed the genetic diversity and population structure of Artemia franciscana populations from different sampling sites in the southeast coast of India using the mtDNA control region. Results revealed clear sequence divergence between populations, with distinct genetic clusters identified. Unique haplotypes associated with specific habitats were observed, indicating sequence divergence within homogeneous populations of A. franciscana despite similar geographic zones.

Settling taxonomic and nomenclatural problems in brine shrimps, Artemia (Crustacea: Branchiopoda: Anostraca), by integrating mitogenomics, marker discordances and nomenclature rules

Lucia Sainz-Escudero et al.

Summary: High morphological plasticity and mismatch between molecular and morphological evolution rates in populations of brine shrimp have hindered the classification of taxonomic entities within Artemia for centuries. Using new complete mitogenomes, a phylogenetic hypothesis for Artemia has been proposed, revealing five evolutionary units. Evidence of gene flow and internal deep nuclear structuring within certain clades suggest the existence of additional evolutionary units within the taxa.

Brine chemistry matters: Isolation by environment and by distance explain population genetic structure of Artemia franciscana in saline lakes

Dagmar Frisch et al.

Summary: The study of Artemia franciscana populations in natural saline lakes of Saskatchewan, Canada revealed that geological history, water chemistry, lake size, and location influence genetic diversity. Mitochondrial marker CO1 indicated historical colonization processes, while nuclear markers were related to variation in hydrochemistry. Geochemistry plays a key role in intraspecific genetic variation and may promote isolation by environment, impacting dispersal via waterbirds.

Impact of Colonization of an Invasive Species on Genetic Differentiation in New Environments: A Study on American Artemia franciscana (Crustacea: Anostraca) in the United Arab Emirates

Alireza Asem et al.

Summary: The introduction of Artemia franciscana to new environments in the United Arab Emirates resulted in lower genetic variation in the invasive populations, which were likely introduced through secondary events from other non-indigenous populations. The different ecological conditions in the new environments exerted selective pressures on the exotic population, affecting genetic variation.
