Sustainable ligand-modified based composite material for the selective and effective cadmium(II) capturing from wastewater

Md. Munjur Hasan et al.

Summary: The chemical ligand BSBAE was embedded indirectly on mesoporous silica to fabricate optical composite materials (OCM) for detecting and removing toxic cadmium (Cd(II)) ions from wastewater solutions. The OCM demonstrated high sensitivity and selectivity towards Cd(II) ions in acidic pH conditions (pH 3.50) and showed distinguishable color changes upon the addition of trace levels of Cd(II) ions. Other metal ions did not significantly affect the performance of the OCM, which had a detection limit of 0.32 μg/L and a maximum adsorption capacity of 179.65 mg/g for Cd(II) ions. Cd(II) ions could be successfully desorbed from the saturated OCM using 0.25 M HCl, and the regenerated OCM maintained its selectivity and adsorption capacity. However, the adsorption efficiency slightly decreased after multiple cycles. Therefore, the OCM offers a cost-effective and viable alternative for detecting and removing toxic Cd(II) ions from wastewater.

Highly efficient and selective capture Pb(II) through a novel metal-organic framework containing bifunctional groups

Rui-Dong Wang et al.

Summary: The design and development of materials with a selective adsorption capacity for Pb(II) is crucial for environmental governance and ecological safety. In this study, a novel 3D metal-organic framework (Cd-MOF) was constructed using a multiple pyrazole heterocycles tetraphenylethylene-based ligand (H4L4) and CdSO4, which exhibited excellent stability and a high adsorption capacity for Pb(II). The Cd-MOF showed a maximum adsorption value of 845.55 mg/g, higher than most other MOFs or MOFs modified materials. It also demonstrated remarkable recyclability due to its unique adsorption mechanism. Thermodynamic studies revealed that the adsorption of Pb(II) by Cd-MOF is a spontaneous endothermic process. These features make Cd-MOF a potential material for industrial capture and recovery of Pb(II) from water.

Simultaneous toxic Cd(II) and Pb(II) encapsulation from contaminated water using Mg/Al-LDH composite materials

Md Tofazzal Hossain et al.

Summary: Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have been widely used for the accumulation of toxic metal ions due to their functional sites and complexation capabilities. In this study, Mg/Al LDHs were combined with sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP) to remove lead (Pb2+) and cadmium (Cd2+) from wastewater. The Mg/Al LDH-SHMP composite exhibited high adsorption capacity and fast adsorption kinetics, making it an ideal material for the accumulation of Pb2+ and Cd2+ from wastewater.

Aluminum-based metal-organic frameworks for adsorptive removal of anti-cancer (methotrexate) drug from aqueous solutions

Farhad Ahmadijokani et al.

Summary: The study found that NH2-MIL-101 has a higher adsorption capacity for MTX compared to other synthesized MOFs due to its large surface area, total pore volume, positive zeta potential, and polar amino functional groups. Adsorption of MTX onto NH2-MIL-101 follows Langmuir isotherms and pseudo-second-order kinetic equations. Thermodynamic data suggest that adsorption onto NH2-MIL-101 is spontaneous and exothermic, with electrostatic interactions, pi-pi stacking, and H-bonding playing a role in the adsorption mechanism.
