Sub-millimetre wave range-Doppler radar as a diagnostic tool for gas-solids systems- solids concentration measurements

Marlene Bonmann et al.

Summary: This paper presents the development and validation of a sub-millimeter wave range-Doppler radar for non-intrusive sensing of solids concentrations in gas-solids systems. The radar system offers the ability to penetrate opaque materials, measure local solids velocity, and provide reflected radar power with high spatial resolution. The experimental results demonstrate that the radar system provides reliable measurements of solids concentrations with high accuracy.

Application of electrical capacitance tomography in pharmaceutical fluidised beds - A review

Haigang Wang et al.

Summary: Fluidised beds are commonly used in the pharmaceutical industry for granulation, drying, and coating, with product quality depending on the operation of the fluidisation processes. Electrical capacitance tomography (ECT) has been utilized for flow dynamics research, optimization, and process fault diagnosis and control in pharmaceutical fluidised beds. Future applications may require re-engineering of ECT sensor design and further improvement in image reconstruction.

Solids flow patterns in large-scale circulating fluidised bed boilers: Experimental evaluation under fluid-dynamically down-scaled conditions

Tove Djerf et al.

Summary: This study aims to explore the mechanisms of solid flow pattern in large-scale Circulating Fluidised Bed (CFB) boilers. Through experiments, it was found that the presence or absence of a dense bed at the bottom of the furnace significantly affects the entrainment of solids, while the back-flow of solids at the exit region is negligible at low gas velocities but becomes significant with higher gas velocities. The estimation of external solids flux based on top flux in the furnace may not always be valid.
