CFD investigation of the in-situ gasification process of biomass in the chemical looping combustion system

Ruihan Dong et al.

Summary: This study numerically investigates the gas-solid reactive flow in the biomass gasification of the fuel reactor in a chemical looping combustion system. The results show that the distribution of solid phase is non-uniform, the residence time of biomass is skewed, and the gas products exhibit a wide range of variations.

Multiphase particle-in-cell simulation study of sorption enhanced steam methane reforming process in a bubbling fluidized bed reactor

Zhanghao Wan et al.

Summary: The study examines the hydrodynamics and thermochemical characteristics of the sorption enhanced steam methane reforming process in a fluidized bed reactor using a multiphase particle-in-cell model. The effects of critical operating parameters on gas thermal properties, bubble evolution, density-segregation mechanism, and heat transfer coefficients for Ni-catalyst and dolomite particles are discussed. Superficial gas velocity shows a positive effect on CH4 and H2O, gas temperature, and gas density while a negative effect on CO and H-2, gas specific heat capacity.

CFD study of the reactive gas-solid hydrodynamics in a large-scale catalytic methanol-to-olefin fluidized bed reactor

Zhanghao Wan et al.

Summary: A three-dimensional multiphase particle-in-cell model is established to study hydrodynamics and thermochemical characteristics during the methanol-to-olefin (MTO) process in a fluidized bed reactor. The results show that particles in the reactor have heterogeneous velocity, temperature, and heat transfer coefficient distributions. Increasing the methanol to catalyst ratio and wall temperature promotes olefin production.

Numerical analysis of wood air gasification in a bubbling fluidized gasifier with reactive charcoal as bed material

Zhanghao Wan et al.

Summary: In this study, a reactive multiphase particle-in-cell model based on the Eulerian-Lagrangian framework is developed to investigate the wood gasification process in a three-dimensional fluidized bed gasifier. The results show that gas velocity and initial bed height have significant effects on the physical and thermophysical properties of the gas-solid reacting flow. The findings provide valuable insights into the behavior of the gasification process in terms of particle dispersion, heat transfer, gas composition, and thermal properties.

Eulerian-Lagrangian simulation study of the gas-solid reacting flow in a bubbling fluidized coal gasifier

Shiliang Yang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that in air-blown coal gasification, the density difference between solid species in the bed leads to spatial segregation, affecting the gasification process. Combustible gas species distribute unevenly in the bed, with little variation in gas temperature.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of particle size distribution width on the performance of chemical looping combustion in a three-dimensional dual circulating fluidized bed. A wider PSD width leads to shorter particle residence time, increased oxygen transport efficiency, and improved fuel conversion rates.

CFD study of the thermochemical characteristics of mesoscale bubbles in a BFB gasifier

Xiaohuan Liu et al.

Summary: This study utilized a computational fluid dynamic model to simulate reactive gas-solid flows in a gasifier for coal gasification, validating the predicted gas components and exploring the dynamics and thermal properties of mesoscale bubbles. The research found that bubbles in the central part of the gasifier have larger lateral chord length and volume, while those near the wall have elongated vertical chord length and increased aspect ratio. The density and pressure of bubbles decrease with bed height, and the thermochemical properties are closely related to bubble temperature.
