Application of experiments and density function theory on the formation mechanism of NH3 during O2/Ar and O2/H2O combustion process of demineralized coals

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the emission characteristics and formation mechanisms of NH3 during the pulverized coal combustion process. Experimental results showed that H2O accelerated the conversion of HCN to NH3. The Density Functional Theory calculations revealed the formation mechanism of NH3 through the conversion of HCN and hydrogenation of coal-N. This study provides important insights into NH3 emissions and their control during coal combustion.

SO2 and NO emissions during combustion of high-alkali coal over a wide temperature range: Effect of Na species and contents

Zhikun Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of alkali species and contents on SO2 and NO emissions during the combustion of high-alkali coal. The results showed that the addition of NaCl and Na2CO3 significantly reduced the emissions and shifted the maximum emission temperatures to lower temperatures. Additionally, sodium showed enhanced suppression effects on SO2 and NO emissions with increasing loading amount, but the suppression effect on SO2 decreased at high temperatures.

Enhanced PbCl2 adsorption capacity of modified kaolin in the furnace using a combined method of thermal pre-activation and acid impregnation

Haoqiang Cheng et al.

Summary: The combined modification method of thermal pre-activation and acid impregnation effectively enhances the adsorption efficiency of kaolin for PbCl2 vapor capture. O2 and H2O promote the capture of PbCl2, while CO2 hinders it. By promoting the formation of highly active free silica, improving the specific surface area and pore structure, and inducing the conversion of 6-coordinated Al atom to unsaturated coordinated Al atom, the modification process enhances the adsorption of PbCl2 vapor by kaolin in the furnace.

Insight into the high-temperature adsorption of PbO/PbCl2 by kaolinite: An experimental and DFT study on the role of H2O/-OH

Xinye Wang et al.

Summary: Water vapor and surface hydroxyl groups were found to play a role in the high-temperature adsorption of metal vapor by kaolinite. The presence of H2O inhibited PbO adsorption but enhanced PbCl2 adsorption on kaolinite surfaces, with interactions between H2O and the kaolinite surface contributing to these effects.

Insights into the role of calcium during coal gasification in the presence of silicon and aluminum

Guanghua Lu et al.

Summary: Clarifying the effects of inert minerals on the catalytic performance of Ca in coal gasification is crucial. The presence of CaO showed excellent catalytic performance, while Si and Al hindered the process. Interactions among Si, Al, and Ca had a catalytic effect on coal gasification, although slightly lower in reactivity compared to Ca-only coal. The evidence suggested that the deactivation of Ca catalyst was not caused by reactions among Ca, Si, and Al.

Capture effect of Pb, Zn, Cd and Cr by intercalation-exfoliation modified montmorillonite during coal combustion

Zeyu Xue et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that intercalation-exfoliation modification enhances the capture capacity of montmorillonite for heavy metals, especially showing significant improvements for Pb, Zn, and Cr, while having adverse effects on Cd in some cases. The modified MMT enhances the chemisorption of heavy metals by exposing more active sites.

The adsorption mechanism of heavy metals from coal combustion by modified kaolin: Experimental and theoretical studies

Zhaoping Zhong et al.

Summary: The study shows that modified kaolin after intercalation-exfoliation and acid/alkali modification significantly enhances the retention effect of heavy metals (Pb, Cd, Zn, and Cr), mainly due to more active adsorption sites, richer porosity, and more effective delay in coal ash coking. Acid/alkali modification effectively promotes stable chemical adsorption by inducing electron transfer between modified kaolin and heavy metals.
