A new sample reduction method for decreasing the running time of the k-nearest neighbors algorithm to diagnose patients with congestive heart failure: backward iterative elimination

Yalcin Isler et al.

Summary: In this study, a new sample reduction method called Backward Iterative Elimination was proposed and applied to classify congestive heart failure (CHF) patients and healthy subjects based on heart rate variability (HRV) features using the k-nearest neighbors (kNN) classifier. The proposed method achieved the highest accuracy values for each k value and showed good performance in reducing the sample size and algorithm's run time compared to other well-known reduction methods.
