Accuracy of comparison decisions by forensic firearms examiners

Keith L. Monson et al.

Summary: This study, using black box experiments, assessed the performance of forensic firearms examiners in the United States. It found that a majority of errors were made by a limited number of examiners. The results of this study are consistent with prior research, indicating the existence of false positives and false negatives in firearms identification.
