Research progress of ochratoxin a bio-detoxification

Fred Mwabulili et al.

Summary: Animals and humans can be exposed to the highly toxic mycotoxin Ochratoxin A (OTA) through dietary intake, inhalation, and dermal contact. OTA is known to have various toxic effects on the body. Several methods have been established to remove OTA, but no technique has been able to detoxify OTA completely. Recombinant degrading enzymes and genetic engineering technology are preferred strategies for OTA bio-detoxification due to their efficiency and safety.

A Superefficient Ochratoxin A Hydrolase with Promising Potential for Industrial Applications

Han Luo et al.

Summary: This study reports a super efficient enzyme, ADH3, that can rapidly transform OTA into non-toxic ochratoxin-a. Compared to other hydrolases, ADH3 degrades OTA faster with higher catalytic efficiency and exhibits good temperature adaptability. This enzyme shows promising potential for industrial applications.

The efficacy of clay bentonite, date pit, and chitosan nanoparticles in the detoxification of aflatoxin M1 and ochratoxin A from milk

Amany Abdelnaby et al.

Summary: The study aimed to establish a sensitive method for determining AFM(1) and OTA using HPLC and assess the efficacy of bentonite, date pit, and chitosan nanoparticles for detoxification from contaminated milk. Results showed that 65.7% of samples contained AFM(1) ranging from 4.5 to 502 ng/L, while 25.7% had OTA ranging from 1.45 to 301 ng/L. Bentonite and date pit demonstrated higher removal efficiency compared to chitosan nanoparticles, with minimal impact on milk's nutritional components.

The characteristics of patulin degradation by probiotic yeast - Pichia guilliermondii S15-8

Ying Luo et al.

Summary: Probiotic yeast strain Pichia guilliermondii S15-8 showed high ability to degrade patulin in apple-derived products, with optimal degradation conditions established at 30 degrees C, 5 mL of juice simulated solution, and 24 hours of incubation, degrading over 90% of patulin. The yeast also exhibited strong tolerance to high levels of patulin stress, making it a potential candidate for detoxification of apple-derived products.

Identification and Safety Evaluation of Ochratoxin A Transformation Product in Rapeseed Oil Refining Process

Tianying Lu et al.

Summary: OTA can be effectively removed during edible oil refinement, but a portion of it can transfer to byproducts. During the deacidification stage, OTA transforms into toxic OP-OTA. Therefore, the safety of soap stock processed from OTA-contaminated rapeseed deserves attention.
