Novel Hyaluronic Acid ethosomes based gel formulation for topical use with reduced toxicity, better skin permeation, deposition, and improved pharmacodynamics

Tushit Sharma et al.

Summary: In this study, lipid-based nanocarriers called ethosomes were used to formulate hyaluronic acid (HA) gel. The optimized ethosomes-based HA gel showed excellent properties and demonstrated higher skin permeation and deposition in ex-vivo and in-vivo studies compared to the commercial formulation. In vivo, the optimized ethosomes-based gel showed greater anti-aging effects on rats and delivered the HA molecule in smaller amounts into the systemic circulation.

Improved stability of liposome-stabilized emulsions as a co-encapsulation delivery system for vitamin B2, vitamin E and β-carotene

Yue Sun et al.

Summary: This study explored the potential of designing emulsion co-encapsulation delivery systems using liposomes as stabilizers. The results showed that liposome-stabilized emulsions, prepared using freshly-prepared liposome suspension and hydrated lyophilized liposomes, had smaller particles and higher environmental stability compared to phospholipid-stabilized emulsion. Liposome-stabilized emulsions demonstrated good environmental stability and antioxidant properties.

Effect of cholesterol on nano-structural alteration of light-activatable liposomes via laser irradiation: Small angle neutron scattering study

Zheng Yuan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of cholesterol on drug release from light-activated drug-encapsulated liposomes. It was found that the inclusion of 35 mol% cholesterol enhanced the permeability of lipid bilayers and the mechanism of laser-activated liposomal drug delivery involved disrupting lipid bilayer membranes through the photothermal effect in the presence of plasmonic materials.

Supercritical CO2 assisted process for the production of mixed phospholipid nanoliposomes: Unloaded and vitamin D3-loaded vesicles

Matheus A. Chaves et al.

Summary: In this study, SuperLip technology was used to produce unloaded and VD3-loaded nanoliposomes. The results showed that both unloaded and VD3-loaded liposomes presented a unimodal size distribution at a water flow rate of 10 mL/min, with the latter having slightly larger diameters. Addition of purified phospholipids led to an increase in the mean size and encapsulation efficiency of VD3-loaded liposomes.

Evaluation of the Intestinal Permeability of Rosmarinic Acid from Thunbergia laurifolia Leaf Water Extract in a Caco-2 Cell Model

Nanthakarn Woottisin et al.

Summary: This study investigated the permeability of rosmarinic acid (RA) in Thunbergia laurifolia (TL) extract and as a pure compound. The results showed that the permeability of RA significantly increased after deconjugation. RA was transported through Caco-2 cells via passive diffusion. RA in TL extract mainly penetrated as conjugated forms with glucuronic acid and/or sulfate.

Cross-linked chitosan-coated liposomes for encapsulation of fish-derived peptide

Leila Ramezanzade et al.

Summary: The study aimed to develop novel hybrid nanocarriers for fish-purified antioxidant peptide, utilizing liposomes coated with chitosan cross-linked with sodium tripolyphosphate. The produced nanodispersion demonstrated good stability and retained antioxidant activity, presenting a promising approach for delivering protein hydrolysates and peptide fractions in nutraceutical and functional foods.

Effect of pH, ionic strength, chitosan deacetylation on the stability and rheological properties of O/W emulsions formulated with chitosan/casein complexes

Fang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study focused on emulsions stabilized by chitosan/casein complexes and found that chitosan effectively improved emulsification activity and stability, with rheological properties primarily influenced by chitosan. The complexes showed shear resistance, rapid adsorption, and predominantly viscous characteristics, with stability depending on viscosity effects, rapid adsorption characteristics, and spatial effects of biopolymer structures.

Effect of gum arabic or sodium alginate incorporation on the physicochemical and curcumin retention properties of liposomes

Junhua Li et al.

Summary: Natural biopolymers like food gums can enhance the physical stability of colloidal particle dispersions. The study found that while adding GA resulted in smaller liposome sizes, it also disrupted the internal structure leading to increased flocculation and poor retention. On the other hand, adding SA formed a viscous continuous phase, reducing particle sedimentation but increasing particle size and polydispersity.

Collagen peptides with DPP-IV inhibitory activity from sheep skin and their stability to in vitro gastrointestinal digestion

Beibei Wang et al.

Summary: Collagen peptides from sheep skin with DPP-IV inhibitory activity were identified, showing potential as functional components in diabetic diet. These peptides were able to maintain inhibitory activity post-digestion, indicating their resilience and importance in controlling DPP-IV levels. Molecular docking studies revealed the mechanisms behind their DPP-IV inhibitory activity.
