Evaluation of PIG-A-mutated granulocytes and ex-vivo binucleated micronucleated lymphocytes frequencies after breast cancer radiotherapy in humans

Remi M. Bonetto et al.

Summary: Although the PIG-A assay in humans failed to show an increase in mutation frequency following radiation therapy for breast cancer, there was a significant increase in cytokinesis-blocked micronucleated lymphocyte (CBML) frequencies. The CBML frequency was correlated with patient age at the start of radiation therapy and the volume of irradiation at the end of therapy, but not with chemotherapy. Further evaluation of the PIG-A assay in humans is needed in different genotoxic exposures and various circulating human cells.

Riverine transport and water-sediment exchange of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) along the middle-lower Yangtze River, China

Zhonghua Zhao et al.

Summary: The study revealed that sediments in the Yangtze River act as a secondary emission source and sink for PAHs, contributing to higher risks downstream. Elevated PAH levels in developed areas were linked to economic factors, primarily from coal and vehicle emissions. Water runoff was identified as the main transport pathway for PAHs in the middle-lower Yangtze River, while dam impoundment upstream led to decreased sediment discharge and increased retention effect.

PIG-A gene mutation as a genotoxicity biomaker in polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon-exposed barbecue workers

Yiyi Cao et al.

Summary: The study found that barbecue workers exposed to PAHs had significantly higher PIG-A mutant frequency compared to controls, suggesting it could serve as a genotoxicity biomarker in human risk assessment.
