Protective effect of glucosamine on zearalenone-induced reproductive toxicity and placental dysfunction in mice

Jun Bai et al.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the effects of glucosamine on zearalenone-induced reproductive toxicity and placental dysfunction in mice. The results showed that glucosamine significantly alleviated the adverse effects of zearalenone on growth performance and placental development in pregnant mice. These findings suggest that glucosamine could be a potential nutritional intervention to protect against zearalenone-induced reproductive toxicity and placental dysfunction in pregnant mice.

Estrogenic and Non-Estrogenic Disruptor Effect of Zearalenone on Male Reproduction: A Review

Andras Ballo et al.

Summary: According to estimates, at least 70% of feedstuffs and finished feeds are contaminated with mycotoxins, posing health risks and economic issues. Among these toxins, zearalenone (ZEA) and its derivatives have been found to have multiple negative effects on male reproductive cells. Studies have shown estrogenic effects of ZEA and discussed the impact on spermatogenesis, sperm cells, and reproductive health.

Protective effects of lycopene on TiO2 nanoparticle-induced damage in the liver of mice

Hongmei Chang et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether lycopene could protect the liver of mice from nano-TiO2 damage. The results showed that lycopene could alleviate the liver pathological damage, reduce liver function injury induced by nano-TiO2, decrease nano-TiO2-induced oxidative stress, mitigate hepatocyte apoptosis, and reverse the expression of apoptosis-related proteins. Furthermore, lycopene significantly reversed the upregulation of p-p38 induced by nano-TiO2. In conclusion, this study demonstrated that nano-TiO2 caused hepatocyte apoptosis through the ROS/ROS-p38 MAPK pathway and led to liver function injury, while lycopene protected the liver against the hepatotoxicity of nano-TiO2 through its antioxidant property.

Betulinic acid alleviates zearalenone-induced uterine injury in mice

Chenglin Yang et al.

Summary: Zearalenone (ZEA) is a mycotoxin that has estrogen-like biological activity and poses a major threat to animal reproduction. Betulinic acid (BA) is a natural plant compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This study found that ZEA caused uterine damage and altered hormone secretion, while BA showed a protective effect and reversed the damage caused by ZEA.

Lycopene Alleviates Titanium Dioxide Nanoparticle-Induced Testicular Toxicity by Inhibiting Oxidative Stress and Apoptosis in Mice

Xiaojia Meng et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates that lycopene can ameliorate TiO2 NPs-induced male reproductive toxicity by inhibiting oxidative stress and apoptosis. Lycopene effectively prevents the decrease in sperm parameters, testicular histopathological lesions, and germ cell apoptosis caused by TiO2 NPs exposure.

Procyanidins inhibit zearalenone-induced apoptosis and oxidative stress of porcine testis cells through activation of Nrf2 signaling pathway

Rong Yan et al.

Summary: This study assessed the effects of procyanidins (PC) on cell apoptosis caused by zearalenone (ZEA) and validated the role of Nrf2 in this process. The findings demonstrated that PC could enhance the cell antioxidant capacity, mitigate ZEA-induced cell apoptosis, and promote the expression of Nrf2 and its downstream genes. This discovery contributes to the clinical application of PC in preventing reproductive toxicity caused by ZEA.

Junnan Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that zearalenone had serious impacts on the reproductive organs and serum hormone levels of female pigs, but Bacillus subtilis ZJ-2019-1 significantly reduced the ZEN content, thereby improving the reproductive impairment caused by ZEN in female pigs. The addition of Bacillus subtilis ZJ-2019-1 to ZEN-contaminated feeds effectively ameliorated the toxic effects, regardless of liquid or dry culture conditions, suggesting great potential for industrial applications.

Shishuai Sun et al.

Summary: Lycopene plays a vital role in improving immunity, enhancing antioxidant capacity, and regulating fat metabolism. The study found that under a high-fat diet, lycopene can reduce oxidative stress, inflammation, and fat deposition in the placenta, promoting fetal development. Lycopene supplementation decreases levels of IL-17, IL-6, and TNF-alpha, increases expression of Glrx gene and protein, and enhances antioxidant capacity in the placenta.
