Choroidal structural changes in different intermediate AMD patterns

Pasquale Viggiano et al.

Summary: The study investigated choroidal thickness and choroidal vascularity index in eyes with drusen and RPD compared with healthy individuals using the SD-OCT with EDI system. Results showed significant decreases in both CT and CVI in RPD eyes, but not in eyes with drusen. This suggests that RPD may be associated with altered choroidal vascularity leading to increased risk of late AMD compared to eyes with drusen.

Reticular pseudodrusen: A critical phenotype in age-related macular degeneration

Zhichao Wu et al.

Summary: Reticular pseudodrusen are distinct lesions in the subretinal space that have been increasingly recognized in association with age-related macular degeneration. Understanding their pathogenesis is crucial for understanding the processes driving vision loss in AMD.

Subretinal drusenoid deposits as a biomarker of age-related macular degeneration progression via reduction of the choroidal vascularity index

Solmaz Abdolrahimzadeh et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the choroidal vascularity index (CVI) in pure cohorts of patients with subretinal drusenoid deposits (SDD) or conventional drusen (CD) to investigate the role of the choroid in early age-related macular degeneration (AMD). The results showed that CVI may have prognostic implications in early AMD, and SDD could be a biomarker of AMD progression, possibly through reduction of CVI.

Evaluation of the inner choroid using OCT angiography

Federico Corvi et al.

Summary: The use of optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) allows for qualitative and quantitative analysis of the retinal vasculature and the choriocapillaris, highlighting the significant role of the latter in the pathogenesis of various diseases. This article reviews current methods for analyzing the choriocapillaris and presents relevant findings in different chorioretinal diseases.

Progression of choriocapillaris flow deficits in clinically stable intermediate age-related macular degeneration

Liran Tiosano et al.

Summary: The study evaluated choriocapillaris flow deficit in eyes with stable intermediate AMD over 12 months, finding that choriocapillaris flow impairment significantly deteriorated during this period, which may indicate a progression to late-stage AMD.

The role of optical coherence tomography angiography in reticular pseudodrusen

Daniela Montorio et al.

Summary: This study investigated the changes in retinal and choriocapillaris vessel density in patients with early AMD and RPD using OCTA. The results showed a significant reduction in choriocapillaris vessel density in both AMD and RPD groups compared to controls, with RPD patients showing decreased vessel density compared to early AMD patients in different macular regions.

Choroidal Vascularity Index in Different Cohorts of Dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Riccardo Sacconi et al.

Summary: This study investigated choroidal luminal and interstitial stromal alterations using CVI among different cohorts of dAMD compared to healthy subjects. Results showed different impairments in choroidal vascular and stromal components among the cohorts, reflecting varying degrees of AMD severity. CVI provides insights for better understanding the pathogenesis of AMD.
