Summary: Four halophilic archaeal strains, YPL8(T), SLN56(T), LT61(T), and KZCA68(T), were isolated from different regions in China. Three of these strains belong to a new species of the genus Natrinema, named Natrinema halophilum sp. nov., Natrinema salinisoli sp. nov., and Natrinema amylolyticum sp. nov. The fourth strain is a new species of the genus Haloterrigena, named Haloterrigena alkaliphila sp. nov.

Bei-Bei Wang et al.

Summary: Three new species of the Halorientalis genus, Halorientalis salina sp. nov., Halorientalis marina sp. nov., and Halorientalis litorea sp. nov., were identified from three halophilic archaeal strains isolated from a salt lake in Tibet and coarse sea salt samples from Guangdong and Hebei, China. These strains showed distinct genetic and phenotypic characteristics, differentiating them from current Halorientalis species.

Summary: Six novel halophilic archaeal strains, representing six new species within the genus Halorussus, were isolated from salt environments in Tibet, Shanxi, and Xinjiang, China. These strains exhibited genetic and phenotypic differences from current Halorussus members, and formed distinct branches in the phylogenomic tree.

Qiong Xue et al.

Summary: The newly discovered Salinadaptatus halalkaliphilus is capable of thriving in high-salt and high-alkaline environments, exhibiting specific oxygen requirements and optimal ranges for temperature and pH. It belongs to a new genus within the family Natrialbaceae, based on phylogenetic analysis, phenotypic characteristics, chemotaxonomic properties, and genome relatedness.

Phylogenomics of Haloarchaea: The Controversy of the Genera Natrinema-Haloterrigena

Rafael R. de la Haba et al.

Summary: This study clarified the controversy related to the genera Natrinema and Haloterrigena by conducting a comparative genomic analysis of the type strains. The results indicated that certain species should be transferred to the genus Natrinema, while others should remain in the genus Haloterrigena. Synteny analysis and phenotypic features supported these proposals.
